One time in 6th grade, a kid made fun of me because I didn’t know what a condom was. I asked my dad what one was and he was happy to tell me; He then told me that if that kid gave me grief again, I should tell him that a condom “was something you wear over your face because you’re a dickhead”...

    I love my dad!

I have no intention of going back to the factory radio in my truck, primarily because it lacks Bluetooth and a USB port. However, I still have it and am always looking to de-clutter the house.

Based on the number 2005-2012 Tacos I've seen around that still have factory radios (Even 2005-2008 models with not even an AUX input), I'm guessing many people still prefer stock.

Sadly, I believe that my factory radio may be FUBAR because the nondetachable "faceplate" has separated from the "box" part of the radio. If I determine it is not fixable, I will be taking it apart just for fun. If it is fixable or not broken to begin with, but nobody wants it, I will probably still tear it apart to see what is inside.

I've have actually had a long history of taking apart old car stereos. When my dad replaced the factory tape deck in his 1990 Mazda B-series with a cheap CD player, he gave me the old radio and I took it apart. In 2008 or 2009, a guy from Delaware who worked at the nursing home where I used to work had a 1990ish Dodge Omni or Plymouth Horizon (I forget which one it was), and it had an aftermarket cassette player in it. He wanted a CD player with iPod hookup, so he replaced the old tape deck. I asked nicely, and he gave me the old radio to take apart. I believe it was a Kenwood, but I'm not sure. I was more amazed that there was an "Omnirizon" still in existence, and that was is the last one I can remember seeing on the road in the last decade.

Anyway, I want to know if I should attempt to sell my factory radio or just go "mad scientist" on it...?

Some people turn old stereos into garage units. Simple radio that works well, just need a 12v inverter.

The problem with the 2009-2012 Tacoma radio is that the AUX input and the actual radio are separate units. The decommissioned AUX input is still in my truck. I have no idea how I'd rig up an AUX input.

If your truck is paid for and runs good, I'd keep it!

Me and my truck have been through some shit together too! Two girlfriends, three jobs, college...

My truck got hit by a drunk driver in a Mercedes, suffering $2,200 in damage while the Benz was totaled!

That's literally my truck's big brother! I actually thought I was in my "2nd Gen Only" stalking thread when I made that original comment...
