One of the many things I love about my dad is that he is a master negotiator, and absolutely refuses to pay asking price for things like houses and vehicles!

MSRP on my Tacoma was a little over $17K if I remember correctly. After trading in his old Pathfinder and negotiating a bit, he paid less than $15K. As recently as 2016-2017, my truck was still worth about $12K even with all the fender benders it’s had! It was when I hit about 75K-80K miles that the value started to dwindle significantly. As of right now, with almost 107K on the clock, my Taco’s resale value is somewhere in the range of $9K-$10K.

My dad is a master of waiting patiently...

When he bought the Yukon last November, the dealer where I worked refused to go below the asking price and said they’d consider going below that after Thanksgiving. At the dealership where I worked, the employee discount got employees and immediate family members $1,500 above invoice on new vehicles, provided they weren’t in high demand like the Jeep Gladiator. Used cars were the sales manager’s discretion. My dad made them an offer considerably lower than the asking price, and was initially refused. Right after Thanksgiving, they called him back and told him they’d take his offer. By the way, the sticker price on the Yukon new about $66K. My dad bought it certified pre-owned with like 8,200 miles and paid nowhere near that!

Also, I got a cut of the sale for referring my dad to that dealership, and I got paid to detail the Yukon!

Snowing here too but only about 25 degrees. About 10 or 15 years ago we had a brutal ice storm, it knocked the electricity out for about 8 days. When the power came back on that furnace ran 2 or 3 days straight without cycling off, what an awful experience that was.

A few years after that ice storm we had some bizarre wind storm, think it was called a Derechio, was kinda like a straight line tornado which blew the electricity out for about 9 days and naturally the temperature was extremely hot around 103 or 104. I bought a generator after that ice storm so I was able to keep the fridge going and ran a couple lights and a fan.

As many people know, we converted my dad’s 2-car garage into a “Garage-majal” a couple months ago...

My dad has not set up all of his tools yet (vice, table sander, etc), but he is definitely getting there. One of my contributions will be this leather shop apron, which should be arriving tomorrow...

    One thing I’d like to talk about is admitting wrongdoing to the police (or anybody for that matter);

In August 2015, I had my very first actual at-fault accident. I rear-ended a 2014 Ford Mustang GT in stop-and-go traffic. The driver of the Mustang was absolutely convinced I was texting and driving, nevermind that I’d left my phone at home by mistake that morning and don’t text while driving to begin with.
She just looked at and asked “What were you doing?” I took this question literally and said something like “Well, I glanced off to the side, traffic stopped, and I couldn’t stop in time. I’m sorry.”

The responding officer also asked me the same damn thing, and I told him the same damn thing. He took me at my word. Seriously though, if I was texting and driving (which I wasn’t), do you think I’d be stupid enough to admit to it?

Another time, I got pulled over and had cigars in my glovebox, given to me by a neighbor, that I’d forgotten about. The cop asked if they were “just cigars”, which in fact they were. I don’t smoke weed, and even if those were “special” cigars (blunts), do you really think I’d admit to it?!?!

I’ve had a few very minor at-fault fender benders, and in the cases where the police showed up, the cops brushed it off as “just as an accident.” I’ve never received a ticket as a result of an accident, and in the two occasions I did get tickets, I fought both to keep the points off my license and won.

    Here’s a question...

Speaking of aprons, who actually wears them for things like cooking anymore? The only time I’ve worn an apron for any length of in the last year is when I making lemon and lime juice at Puck...

When I was at the original Coffeehouse from January 2009 to mid-2010, aprons were provided and everyone wore them when helping out in the kitchen regardless of whether or not they wore them in the kitchen at home. My friend Doug wears an apron when cooking, but he is a culinary arts major and a serious baker. I have never seen any of my friends, male or female, wear an apron for cooking or doing housework. My parents don’t wear aprons, and I don’t wear aprons (though my closet contains three of the high-quality waterproof ones from Puck because I bought those with my own money and didn’t want them to “disappear”). This leather one I bought on Amazon will more than likely be worn for work in the garage and when I am detailing my truck.

Seriously, does anybody who frequents this thread (or anyone they know) wear an apron regularly? I don’t wear an apron while cooking because the irony is that my clothes almost always stay clean while the kitchen ends up getting trashed! :D

The certain amount of time you mention is a limited lookback. Sounds like 10 years. MA had a similar law where a prior OUI wasn't considered after 10 years. That changed roughly 15 years ago to a lifetime lookback, which was part of Melanie's Law (changed a lot of the drunk driving laws).

I do think in the extreme case of having taken a life it should be pretty harsh. That said, I got caught a long time ago so I hope I'm not getting lumped in with this other person.
