I don’t think it failed as much someone installed it incorrectly. Last time I bring it to the dealer...

Also, can all of these unscheduled repairs effect my truck’s value? Thompson Toyota reports EVERYTHING to Carfax.

again, why is the independent mechanic looking at this when the dealer did the work last and they should be the ones fixing the issue. Dealer can EASILY state that now that someone else has touched it, it is not their problem.

Have the independent mechanic put it back together, take it to the dealer and dont say a WORD about taking it to your mechanic.

Also.... if the mechanic had a hard time pulling off a drum.... id question his abilities.

So, it was 100% the dealer’s fault and they’re owning it!

The wheel bearing was “notched”. The tech who worked on my truck did not bother to tell his service manager, which is why I never knew about this. He decided to just make it work. I should have been given option of replacing the bearing or staying with the “notched” bearing. The service manager apparently read the tech the riot act over this. I get a new wheel bearing 100% for free (don’t even pay for labor)!

I am 99% sure the reason the axle seal failed in the first place is because this bearing was notched and not due to old age or high mileage, which is why the brand new one failed almost immediately!

Related? Like, shoes were tight and he cranked on the bolts till it destroyed the shoe hold down, instead of backing off the shoe adjustment?

"notched"????? I've never heard of that term in relation to a bearing. So they replaced the seal and didn't replace the bearing? That was a dumb ass move. I learned in preschool that when you replace a leaking seal, you replace the bearing.

That’s why the tech got read the riot act and I’m not paying for it this time around! I do not think I will be bringing my truck to this dealer again!
