@El Duderino You obviously have more than a bit of medical knowledge, so answer me this if you can; When I sprained my ankle at the age of 13, I was given the choice between crutches and a splint, or an aircast boot that allowed me to walk normally...

A former girlfriend sprained her ankle in late 2014 and had to use an aircast boot and crutches. When she rode in my Taco this one time, we had to lay the crutches flat in the bed because they obviously wouldn’t fit in the cab...

Anyway, she had to use both crutches and an aircast. Just 12 years earlier, I was given the choice between crutches and and aircast. I chose the aircast because I’d never been on crutches before (still haven’t) and it seemed like
less of a pain in the ass.

I literally knock on wood whenever I say this, but my health insurance company must love me because I’ve had the following in less than 31 years of existence (I was born in March 1989):

    • Tube surgically placed in ears due to chronic severe ear infections (1991-1992)
    • Overnight in an oxygen tent at a hospital due to severe coughing (1992-1993)
    • Monthly allergy shots (1992-1996)
    • First eye muscle surgery (1994)
    • Sprained ankle (November 2002)
    • Biweekly therapy sessions with an Aspergers specialist (2006-present)
    • Fractured elbow (May 2008)
    • Eyeglasses (2008-2015)
    • Colonoscopy (February 2012)
    • Second eye muscle surgery (January 2017)
Everything else has just been routine doctor and dentist visits, and prescription refills!

Going back to how I sprained my ankle, I don’t even remember which one it was because it was almost 20 years ago!

We were living in Fairfax County, Virginia at the time. I was at the neighbor’s house, and they had a house with a walkout basement and stairs going up to the back deck. The family dog was on the back deck, locked in by the gate; He was mutt named Buck. I went around back to pet Buck, who was not a mean dog but rather intense at times. As soon as I approached that gate at the top of the stairs, Buck barked loudly and scared me. I did a 180 and bolted back down the stairs, but unfortunately I missed the last step and tripped, spraining my ankle in the process. This was 100% my fault, and I’m pretty sure the neighbor kid’s parents were even notified.

This neighbor was down the street and to the left on a different street than the one we lived on, and I don’t even remember how the hell I got home since walking was virtually impossible. I rode my bike everywhere back then, and peddling was strangely less painful than walking, so I’m guessing I biked back home.

Needless to say, I spent less than a week in the aircast boot and maybe another week in a less-complex inflatable splint. This was my last orthopedic injury for almost six years!

As I said above, I’ve never actually been on crutches. Just this past September when I was at the junkyard, I found a pair of crutches on the ground next to a 2005-2010ish Chevy Equinox and tried them out for a couple minutes, but I’ve never been on crutches as the result of an injury. This is obviously a good thing, but most of my family and friends have been on crutches at least once in their life and I can’t help but feel I’ve missed out on some sort of right of passage. Needless to say, I still hope I never end up on crutches. I’ve also never worn a cast, either!

One of our company minivans is a white 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, with a little over 117K miles as of this posting. The transmission has already failed once!

There’s different types of sprains depending on the location and what got torn.

Why would they put someone in a walking brace and on crutches? I thought the aircast/brace was supposed to take the place of crutches!

Crutches are for support, they most likely weren’t need all the time just for support

    @shakerhood

    Look closely...

What does an American-spec 1985-1987 Rolls-Royce have in common with a Chevy Cavalier of the same era?

Maybe the Steering Wheel or Speedometer?

    Nope...

You gotta be kidding me; Rolls-Royce used Jaeger instrumentation and the steering wheel is unique to the car; Look closer!

So, two of my cousin's (one on mom's side and one on dad's side) drive Toyota RAV4s. The cousin on my dad's side drives a 2016 RAV4 XLE AWD with a staggering 66K miles on it (she drives a lot). My other cousin drives a base 2009 RAV4 AWD with like 72K miles (he doesn't drive that much). I was talking with him on the phone in the supermarket this evening, and I told him to promise me he would never buy a Nissan, because "Nissans are junk". A woman nearby overheard this said "Hey, I drive a Nissan!" and I believe she flipped me off...
