Take this with a grain of salt....

This is hard to answer for you Charlie. You went to school for writing if I remember correctly. Does this not interest you at all?

What do you do for your parents business? Do they want to retire and have you keep it going?

Some people say money is the root of all evil, or money can't buy you happiness, etc...

Personally, I think those people never had any money and shouldn't comment on such topics. I've been on both sides of that fence, and I will chose having money in my bank account and assets every time.

-You can't have a lasting relationship if you don't have some money. Period. I would like to see someone prove me wrong on this one.

-Having no money sucks, and leads to boredom, which leads to an unhappy place.

-Living at home with your parents is nice (this guy was out of the house two weeks after graduating HS), but no woman is going to say "hey, this guy has his shit together" living with your parents. There's something to be said about walking around in your own place naked. When you can watch your lady get out of bed naked, turn around and ask "do you want something from the kitchen" and have her get you a glass of water and come back to bed the way she left...priceless. If there's one thing I miss about having kids, it would be my privacy.
Take baby steps, once you have a solid income. Get a place with a roommate, then get a place without one....etc.

When I was 25 years old, I had to sit down, break open a case of beer, got rip roaring drunk, had an epiphany of where my life was going. I truly wasn't happy. Dated girls that were just "fun girls" but never ones I would bring home to my parents. This is what I came up with:

-What criteria in a woman do I want for my "soulmate?" I had a few simple rules that worked for me, because life is to long to be with the wrong soulmate, and visa versa with the right one.
    1) Had to have her own place.
    2) Have obtainable goals and goal oriented. WTF is she doing in life and where is it going?
    3) Have transportation. This was mind boggling to me on how many women didn't have a vehicle.
    4) Have a career or going to school to get that dream job.
    5) Most importantly, want me, does't need me. Let that sink in.... My wife doesn't need me, and thats for sure.

-What can I do for a lasting career? What do I like? Any past training I've had that can be used today? I worked a job that was kick ass, but was taxing on the body. There is no way in hell I could do this labor intensive work in my 50's and older. I watched some of the guys in there 60's just get hurt all the time. Pay was awesome, but for how long?
These are the things that only you can figure out.

    My last girlfriend...

    • Was 22 years old when we started dating.
    • Did not have a driver’s license.
    • Had never been to college and was not presently in college.
    • Had never had a job.
    • Not only seemed to be on the autism spectrum but seemed to have other underlying issues that even she didn’t fully grasp.
    • Didn’t want her parents to know we were officially dating.
    • The list goes on...

I want a woman who has at least two of the following three things:

    • A driver’s license.
    • A job.
    • A college degree or is currently in college.

    @ColoradoTJ

Yes, I have an associate’s degree in journalism. I love to write, but the mainstream media is unappealing to me because it is too politically biased, so so don’t think that’s the path for me...

I would love to work for a car magazine or autoblog, but desirable (and profitable) gigs in the writing profession are hard to come by.

Your last GF would not have been an option for me, unless it was just dating casually.

Your requests shouldn’t be that hard to find and I wouldn’t settle until you do.

Have you ever considered Blue collar work, take an apprenticeship on?

Have you looked into Power Generation field?

I have my heart set on HVAC! My dad wants to be absolutely sure I’ll commit to it before he dives into
the college fund he had set aside for me.

Do you have to go to college for four years to go into power generation?

HVAC is a great career choice. Lots of OT, but you will work independently and with a team. Go for it!

    As for power generation:

Bismarck State College offers online degrees for power station operators, transmission system operators, etc.

Lots of ex-military: Turbine mechanics, Navy Nukes, etc.

Plenty of welders, mechanics, electricians, Instrument and controls, operations, gas trading, power marketing, and engineers. The list goes on.

    I’m not ex-military though...

Do you have to be ex-military?

Everything goes back to whether my dad thinks I will commit to it; My parents put me through community college and I have an associate’s degree in journalism. That took 4 years longer than I would have liked because I changed majors and didn’t do a full course load every semester...

    Not officially...

I took night classes in 2011-2012 that I passed, and I’ve taken apart central A/C units owned by family and friends to clean them.

I have a great deal of book smarts and technical knowledge when it comes to HVAC.

There are certain things about it I have doubts about...

One thing I know is that I’d be better off as service tech than as an installer, at least with regards to welding and brazing and shit.

    @ColoradoTJ

My plan is to stay with Navmar for 3 three years (minimum required to get a 100% return on my 401K) while I go to school...

My best friend Mike and I have discussed moving in together and renting a place.

Now some folks say it's too big
    And uses too much gas
    Some folks say it's ugly
And that it goes too fast
But my love is bigger than a Honda
Yeah, it's bigger than a Subaru
Hey man there's only one thing
And one truck that will do...
