One of the communal showers; They actually sound affects of people talking and water flowing playing on hidden speakers, and I initially thought there were people in here...

 

The machine shop, because if something breaks while you're at sea it's not exactly easy to head back to shore...

 

When I was trying to figure out why the shifter was all messed up I pulled the carpet up and noticed someone cut a hole for the shifter and then the dash and steering were off, that's when it clicked that they used an S-15 automatic cab.

 

I believe the "355" (2004-2012) Colorados and Canyons came off the line with holes for a manual shifter even if they were automatic; This was a cost-cutting measure, and in my opinion quite ingenious if anybody ever wanted to do a manual transmission or floor shift automatic conversion...

Bunkroom for Marines who were on the ship as security; If a sailor wanted a free ass-kicking, coming in here was an easy way to do get it!

 

I mentioned before about wanting to do a Manual Swap in a mid 80's Monte Carlo, even though they never came with MT they have the correct holes in the firewall already stamped.

 

I'm pretty sure I've seen that done to an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (same basic car as the Monte Carlo)...

 

Trust me I know. USS Nimitz for a spell, needless to say there was a more then one issue

The reason the holes are there is that they were based off a Malibu which did have a MT option. I forget what the Pontiac version was of the Cutlass, Regal, Monte was but it had a rare factory manual version too.

 

When we (meaning me, my dad, the same cousin I was with on this trip, and my friend) went on the New Jersey in 2012, I was still going through my insane HVAC obsession. The New Jersey had been fitted with central air for the comfort of the visitors during the summer, and one of the volunteers took me to the top deck to see the massive chillers that were used to cool the interior of the ship. While we were up there, he told me that the area that now housed the chillers was formerly the Marines' area, and that sailors who went up there were eligible to be shot...

 

Look up "Iraqi Taxi" or "Iraqibu"...
