Never heard of that either, it's not rocket science as it has a Primary Shoe, a Secondary Shoe, and a connection for the Handbrake.

My 1st and 2nd Gens had a pull lever to the lower right side of the steering wheel, and the 3rd Gen has a Traditional handbrake between the seats.

That's the way all Japanese trucks were until the early 21st century! My dad had a 1986 Mazda B2000 and a 1990 Mada B2600i, and both had the pull-and-turn lever to the left of the steering wheel; The 1986-1997 Nissan Hardbody trucks were the same way; I believe the earliest 1st Gen Frontiers had this as well, but my uncle's 2002 Frontier 5-speed has a floor pedal if I remember correctly. All 1st Gen Tacos had the pull-and-turn lever, regardless of transmission. The 2nd Gens got pull-and-turn on manual transmission models only.

Do you think I should replace the serpentine belt?

It won't hurt anything, and you can always stash the old one in the truck for an emergency.

It's not hard, you just need to pull the tensioner pulley back to take pressure off. My old 2nd Gens even had a little hole you could stick a screw driver in that held it in the relaxed position to make the change a breeze.

Most of my log book is in my head; Everything else is in the "Tacoma File" my dad started pretty much the day he bought the truck...

If you have access to OEM then I would go that way. I like keeping Log Books on my vehicles then I can look back on when I did certain things.

My truck hasn't needed a whole hell of a lot aside from routine maintenance and brakes; This is all of the unscheduled stuff I can remember...

    • "Unintended acceleration" recall remedy - 2009 or 2010
    • Factory radio replaced under warranty - 2011 or 2012
    • "Squirrel Cage" blower - 2011 or 2012
    • Master cylinder - February 2014
    • Frame rustproofing under recall - October 2017
    • Complete front brake replacement - March 2018
    • A/C evaporator core - September 2018

Also, the subwoofer I have in my Taco right is currently going for almost $270; I got a refurbished one for like $150 if I remember correctly!

So, a couple people I know have actually worn straitjackets before. Neither one of them is crazy. One was my best friend's mom, who worked as a psychiatric nurse for many years. As part of the training in proper use of a straitjacket, the staff had to demonstrate proper application on each other. My friend's mom thinks they are cruel, but to be honest I wouldn't mind wearing one just to see what it's like.

The other person I know who's been in a straitjacket is my former special ed teacher, and she used to work at a mental health facility. Like my best friend's mom, she was strapped into a straitjacket as part of mandatory training and probably spent about twenty minutes in the thing. This teacher is now one of my closest friends, and among other things, we go out for a beer from time to time. She routinely pays me to haul stuff for her with my truck. Anyway, she believes she was put in the straitjacket in about 1999. That particular facility is still around, but I've been told they haven't used straitjackets there in over fifteen years. In general, straitjackets have completely fallen out of use at mental health facilities in the western hemisphere, though companies like Posey and Humane Restraints still make them. I think they are kinda cruel for use in psychiatric and correctional applications, but seeing people like Criss Angel and David Copperfield escape from in record amounts of time is pretty damn impressive...

There's a British woman who goes by the stage name of "Sof Strait" (her real name is Sofia Romero) who had a YouTube channel, and she currently holds the Guinness World Records title for fastest straitjacket escape; I am unfortunately having trouble finding her YouTube channel. I did find one video with her in it, but it doesn't show her escaping from the straitjacket. There are plenty of videos featuring men and women escaping from straitjackets, but in a lot of cases the straitjacket is too big (especially if it's a woman), incorrectly applied, or both. Sofia escaped in less than five seconds.

I would be curious to wear a straitjacket just to see what it's like, but I guarantee you I could never escape a properly sized regulation jacket. I am big, clumsy, and out of shape. A lot of these escape artists are small, nimble, and in incredibly good shape. Still fun to watch the escapologists, especially the women, get out of the straitjackets though!
