Occasionally I would get lucky and get a bus with a stereo system; Bus drivers were generally very open to radio station request from students...

I can remember very thinly padded seats with exposed metal bars, no stereo in that bad boy, lol.

When my dad was in school, the buses still had manual transmissions!

One thing that is ticking me off about some of my friends is that all they want to do is go out for dinner; A couple of my friends are in bands and I LOVE seeing them play, but I don’t do it as often as I used to because eating at some of the places where they perform is EXPENSIVE!

I actually stopped going to see my best friend’s old band perform because they would always book gigs at shitty dive bars that allowed smoking, and were frequented by trashy older people. Luckily, my friend left that bad because he was sick of coming home from gigs smelling like cigarettes!

My other friend’s band regularly performs at nice places in New Hope, but I don’t go to those gigs often anymore because New Hope is ridiculously overpriced.

The same valet parking company that charged five bucks in Doylestown charges twenty in New Hope!

I got my license in May 2011; In September or October 2019, I encountered something I’d never encountered in more than eight years of being a licensed driver...

I live in a culdesac, and there is a three-way intersection with three stops signs. Normally I turn left, but on this particular morning when I was headed to work, there was a school bus with its lights on and it’s stop sign extended.

Obviously, I could turn left, but the bus was what I considered to be a side street and well behind the white limit line. I stopped at the stop sign, looked to make sure it was clear, and proceeded straight through the intersection...

This was met by the older female bus driver angrily blaring her horn and gesturing at me; I responded by yelling out the window that I was going straight and kept going.

I told my coworker about this encounter upon arriving at work, and he agreed with me that I didn’t have to stop if the bus was on side street. Turns out we were both wrong, because after I told my dad he looked up the rules on the PennDOT website and discovered that drivers do indeed have to stop at a controlled intersection if the bus is actually on the intersecting road.

That bus driver still hates me and flares at me whenever I drive past her on my way to work; Now it’s a mad dash to get out the door before the bus shows up so I don’t waste time waiting for the kids to board!

Now they're starting to do away with manual transmissions in 18-wheelers! My friend Dave drives for R&L Carriers, and he believes that eliminating manual transmissions from big rigs will result in otherwise unqualified individuals getting CDLs and becoming truck drivers!

One thing I have a very hard time dealing with is an unpredictable or overly flexible work schedule. I don't know if this something common to most Aspies, or more of a Charlie thing, but I like schedule to be flexible!

One of my biggest annoyances at the detail shop was when my shift was over in five minutes, and some asshole salesperson would bring in a vehicle that someone had just purchased; Because of Murphy's Law, it was almost always a large SUV or pickup truck! Even worse, only one of the maybe half-dozen detailers on that night would get paid for it, but all of us had to pitch in and help if we wanted to be out before 8:30pm (the shop was supposed to close at 8pm). Working at the detail shop was predictable in the sense that I worked the same four days every week, but we had no control over how late we or how early we got to go home. But, it was ultimately predictable.

One of the things I absolutely dreaded if I ever had to work a retail job, especially part-time, was the unpredictable nature of the work schedule. I like my current job because I work the same hours on the same days every week. I expect that I will have to work a bit of overtime in the coming weeks and months, but that's okay because I will be paid for every bit of it. One of the things that drove me up the wall at my old job was the flat rate, or "piece work" pay system. I got paid per vehicle detailed instead of per hour or a set salary; If I detailed a lot of cars in a shift this was quite profitable, but I was one of the slower detailers on the floor. If there weren't a lot of cars to detail, we just sat on our asses and got paid nothing. Even more annoying than having nothing to do was having to clean up the shop at the end of the night for no extra pay.

Basically, you have to pay me to give a shit about anything but my own property; If you expect me to clean up a mess that I didn't cause, on someone else's property, for free, then I'm not gonna clean it up because I don't give a shit!

What do you think of that law that requires all buses to stop at train tracks and open their doors? In a rural area, where the train track may or may not have gates and warning lights. However, in cities and suburbs, all this antiquated rule does is hold up traffic and piss off motorists. There is a train track next door to my work, and at the end of the day, it's always a mad dash to get out of the parking lot before the caravans of school buses start showing up!

There will be lines of two or three buses at times, and each one has to stop at the train track and open its doors. When there are two or three buses stopped there, it blocks the parking lot exit. When there are people behind the buses, it also blocks exit. Sometimes if I get make it out, I still end up stuck behind a bus because some dickhead in the left lane won't let me in.

I know members of the armed forced are salaried, but I'm guessing you got overtime and/or hazard pay if you worked longer than planned or encountered a particularly dangerous situation?

    Pain in my ass...

Street Road is bad enough without every single school bus in a caravan of three or more having to stop at the train track!

No overtime lol. We would get combat and tax free pay, and hazard pay. In the marine infantry we would seriously sit around all day if we weren’t in the field training and wait to get off work. Sometimes they would forget and let us of at 7-8pm when we start at 5am

Still sounds like Marines get treated a hell of a lot better than car detailers!

What does it matter if the bus doesn't have kids on it? When I started studying to get my license, I was pretty much told that it's okay to proceed as long the gate is up and the lights aren't flashing.
