Factory speakers definitely sucked in newer 2nd Gens! I can personally attest to this after 3½ years of driving my truck with the shitty stock stereo! My friend's '04 AC TRD (the one I drove) has an aftermarket head unit but factory speakers, and in my opinion the speakers in that were pretty damn good!

They cheaped out alot on my 2015 compared to the 2008, the carpet was way thinner and the seat fabric didn't feel as durable even though it looked similar.

2009-2010 was just as good as 2005-2008, if not better; 2009-2010 models came with the added benefit of traction control, extra airbags, etc...

I think Tacomas started to cheap out a bit around 2011, and I've heard that 2012s had quality issues...?

I think in 2008 had an optional side airbag on certain trims or models too. I do think A-TRAC started in 2009 along with other goodies you mentioned. That weird air pump started on the later 2nd Gens that was definitely a source of issues.

Also, what do you think I should do about my headlights if I can't find the receipt?

    • Write a bad review of that CARQUEST location on Yelp?
    • Go to the owner of that CARQUEST (who also owns like half a dozen dealers in the area) and complain to him?
    • Eat the cost of the headlights and get new ones?

I would do a combo of option 2 and 3, talk to the owner and see if he can cut you a discount on some new ones.

No way in hell I'm paying $361 per headlight at the stealership! And my neighbor told me to be weary of aftermarket headlights due to, you guessed it, LEAKING!

The ones I used were OEM-style (forget the band) and I was told by CARQUEST that they were the same one's that would have been used if the parent dealership's body shop had repaired my truck after an accident (I was no in an accident; I just replaced the headlights because they were cloudy and discolored). Local Toyota dealer wanted $361 per headlight, but the dealer where I used to work (which owns the CARQUEST) charged me like $206 for the pair if I remember correctly...

And the $206 was AFTER my employee discount; I did leave my job at the detail shop on good terms (put in my two weeks and everything), but I still no longer work there and thus no longer can get employee discount, so I would not be buying a replacement pair from CARQUEST...

This means I’ve put almost 10K miles on my truck in about seven months!

    You could say that...

I put 18K miles on my truck in 2019, up about 7K from the previous year!

I put about 11K on my truck each year, and roughly 3K on the car.

You'd be exempt from emissions testing in Pennsylvania!

One time I got an Uber, and it was a 2016 or 2017 GMC Yukon XL; The SUV had over 170K miles and was on its second transmission, and the owner said it wasn't even paid off yet!

Had my Tacoma since Jan 2016, it has 37k on it. Wife’s 4runner since November 2018 it’s just hit 20k and that was after I put 8k on it driving around the country.
