Who do you think had to clean it off his paw, and got nipped in the process?

My cat is pretty fearless, loud machinery doesn't seem to faze her but occasionally the welder spooks her.

When my neighbor helped me install my Pioneer AVH-1330 NEX, he used this app on his phone to calibrate the two custom settings on the HU's equalizer for optimum sound; My HU has been malfunctioning and I reset it to factory specs in a failed attempt to fix it...

I'm getting a new head unit via Crutchfield in a few days (Pioneer AVH-1550 NEX), and I would like to optimize the EQ on it; Unfortunately, my neighbor doesn't have this app on his phone and forgets what it's called. Does anybody know what this app is called?

My neighbor determined he needs to make me a new wiring harness...

My truck has never overheated though; If all I’ve got to worry about is electrical problems with the stereo then I’d say I’ve got it pretty good!

Dakotas are generally good trucks, if you take care of them...

I am sure you can find decent ones out there, but he seems to find a way to pick the worst example of a vehicle. The day he was looking at this truck and told me it had a Salvage Title I told him absolutely do not buy it and naturally he immediately bought it.

Some salvage title vehicles can be okay; In the late 1980s or early 1990s, my uncle bought a red 1986 Toyota 2WD pickup at an insurance auction that had been rear-ended and written off. If I remember correctly, the entire bed had to be replaced, but there was no frame damage and it ran great. He got a bed from a truck with severe frontal damage, put it on the truck, and repainted it (the truck may not have been red originally). This red Toyota did not have A/C originally, but my uncle added it; He also put on alloy wheels from a 1974 AMC Hornet and added Toyota emblems to them, and I believe he added a power sliding rear window. I'm also pretty sure my uncle added an aftermarket cassette deck and new speakers. He then either sold it to my Grandpa (his dad) or just outright gave it to him. That truck never had a problem; Pop-pop sold it and replaced it with a 1995 Jeep Cherokee in either 1995 or 1996 because it was simply getting old...

    @shakerhood

The Cherokee came from the same uncle who fixed up the red Toyota; My uncle special-ordered the Jeep as a family vehicle, specifically ordering a 2-door because he liked the way the 2-door looked better. My uncle thinks 4WD is just something else to go wrong, so he goes out of his way not to get 4WD; That's right! My uncle actually had a 2WD Jeep Cherokee! I'm pretty sure the 4.0L six was standard by then; My uncle ordered his Jeep with the 5-speed stick and a Trac-Loc (positraction) rear diff. He ordered in this beautiful turquoise color with a gray cloth interior, and it had every option; A/C, cruise, tilt, power windows, power locks, stereo cassette...

My uncle did not consult my aunt about buying this Jeep; She'd wanted an SUV, and was fine with a manual transmission, but she was pissed at him for getting a 2-door. My uncle paid cash for the Cherokee, so he owned it outright from day one; Pop-pop was retiring from the police force soon and wanted a new vehicle, so he bought the Cherokee from my uncle (I have no idea if Pop-pop paid cash; The Jeep was barely a year old so it wouldn't surprise me if he financed instead of paying cash). So, my uncle sold the '95 Cherokee and leased a red 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. When the lease was up on the '96, he leased a white 1998 model that was identical to the red one in every way except color; Both of these Grand Cherokees were 4x4s and the only 4x4s he's ever owned that I'm aware of...

I've told the story of how I ended up with two sets of grandparents before, but here it is again for anybody who's starting on this page...

My paternal grandparents divorced in the 1960s after having four kids together (three boys and a girl). Both remarried in the 1970s; Pop-pop married the woman I now call Nana J and they had my aunt in 1975. Grammy and Mr. P had no kids together. As far as I was concerned, it meant more birthday and Christmas presents!

That's a little odd that he sought out a 2 wheel drive.

Nana J had a white 1987ish Buick Century (May have been a Skylark but I'm pretty sure it was a Century) that apparently turned out to be a lemon. She saw the car on the showroom floor when it was brand new, fell in love with it, and bought it. I have no memory of this car whatsoever, even though I believe they got rid of it after I was born. The first vehicles of Pop-pop and Nana J that I can remember are the blue 1991 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, and the red 1986 Toyota pickup that I just mentioned. Pop-pop was OCD about car care, so their vehicles were always mint. I loved that blue Oldsmobile; It had a blue velour interior and it was LOADED; They traded it for a new Oldsmobile in 1999 (possibly an Eighty-Eight). The '86 Toyota pickup was sold and replaced with the '95 Cherokee in 1995 or 1996; The Jeep was sold in 2003 or 2004 and replaced with a leased 2003 or 2004 GMC Envoy. Pop-pop loved the Envoy so much that he leased another new Envoy in 2006 or 2007; He then died of lung cancer in November '07, and Nana J held onto it until the lease was up.

Pop-pop was a Marine for a few years back in the 1950s and had "Leatherneck" plates; These remained with the Envoy until it was given back. Nana bought a new 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe and got new plates, so my uncle and I each got a "Leatherneck" plate! Nana still drives the Hyundai but is thinking of getting something new.

Every new rear-wheel drive vehicle he's ever ordered, always had a posi or limited-slip rear but no 4WD...

    • 1991 Volvo 240D (not available with 4WD, so it's a moot point)
    • 1993 Dodge Dakota Sport
    • 1994 Ford Ranger XLT
    • 1995 Jeep Cherokee
    • 2000 Dodge Durango
    • 2002 Tacoma S-Runner (came standard with an LSD anyway)

The Durango holds the distinction of being the only vehicle he ordered that he leased, and he describes it as one of the biggest pieces of junk he's ever had; The '93 Dakota and the '94 Ranger were also distinctive because my uncle ordered them with every option you could get (power windows and locks, etc), and always specified the "middle" engine with a 5-speed manual. A/C was not terribly uncommon even in the 1990s, but do you have any idea how hard it is to find an older regular cab pickup with power everything?

    Front-wheel drive too...

He's owned two Honda Elements, a Hyundai Tucson, a 2003 Honda Pilot EX (another lease); All front-wheel drive! Every pickup truck he's ever owned has been 2WD; A Dodge D50, at least one Datsun, a Dodge Dakota numerous Toyota pickups, at least two 1st Gen Tacomas (both 2002 models), probably half a dozen Ford Rangers ranging in year from 1994 to 2006, and at least one late 1980s Mazda B-series! Now he's in a 3rd Gen Taco TRD Sport, also 2WD!
