I was at my friend’s house in Chalfont earlier today, and she’s not able to get the A/C fixed until Monday; She believes a rodent snacked on the wiring AGAIN!

One of many garter snakes that has taken up residence on my friend’s property; This particular snake is very aggressive by garter snake standards...

He does look somewhat aggressive, my cat usually gets rid of snakes or anything out of the ordinary for me.

    Is Gibson a decent brand?

It's Nordyne, so I would not install it, but my friend's is 15 years old and is really quiet...

Also, Porter found a dead squirrel in the backyard and tried to eat! It took both of us to make him drop it!

The furnace guy said the new furnace will be much quieter, the old one was definitely on the louder side. I am glad you were able to get him to drop the squirrel because you don't know what killed it and it could have possibly made him sick.

Not just killed it; ATE IT! At first I thought it was a whole squirrel because I saw only the tail sticking out of his mouth, but upon closer inspection most of the squirrel was already gone...

All that was left by the time Porter found it was the tail, the very back half of the body, and what appeared to be a combination of muscle and intestines...

    :puke:

I did not want to touch the thing at first, and was initially going to make my 47-year old female friend do since she wasn't as grossed out, but she couldn't get a grasp on the squirrel and Porter was very close to swallowing it. I was finally to grab the tail and pull it out; I tossed it over the fence...

Also, the saving grace of my friend's Gibson is that it has a Copeland-Scroll compressor; Many earlier Nordynes had reciprocating compressors of varying quality, so at best they were incredibly noisy and at worst they didn't last more than a decade!

    @shakerhood

You can tell a lot about a household by the brand of HVAC equipment used; I have seen $600,000+ houses that have a Goodman or Nordyne unit, while I have seen much more modest and/or older houses (1940s-1980s ranchers) with a Carrier Infinity or a Trane XLi. This tells me that the people are either wealthy penny-pinchers, or they spent too much on their house to afford a decent HVAC systems. It’s not even so much the brand of equipment chosen, but rather the quality of the install. The house next door to my parents’ old house in North Wales is the exact same floor plan, but it has a 2004ish Goodman that was installed very half-assed.

I also drive through neighborhoods of older McMansion-type houses that still have their original A/C units (generally Carrier or Lennox); It is not uncommon to see the units tilted sideways or sinking into the ground after sitting there for 10+ years, and this is very bad for the units because it shortens the life of the compressor.

Carrier and Goodman are by far the most popular brands among mega-builders in this area; My neighborhood (built by NV Homes) has Goodman, and all of the Toll Brothers McMansions around the corner have two or three Carrier units. Lennox is also quite popular, followed by York.

Also, I was sitting on the couch with my friend watching the news; Accidentally farted, and it was muffled by the cushion...

My friend thought it was her phone vibrating!

I was watching some YouTube videos of an HVAC guy that goes around fixing bad installations, some of the work he comes across is ridiculously bad.

There’s a few of them, but HackFree is the one who got me interested!

The one I was watching didn't even have the exhaust vent hooked up and was dumping carbon monoxide.

If it was a furnace then it likely wasn’t HackFree; Most units in the Phoenix area are heat pumps...

Yeah this was a furnace with bare wires and a switch hanging out in the open along with the exhaust for the furnace not hooked up.
