This is different than the issue I was having over the winter; That turned out to be “contaminated” brake pads...

I just noticed this on Saturday; When the brakes are applied, every so often my truck will make this awful noise that sounds like a burglar alarm or fire alarm. It stops immediately once I take my foot off the brake pedal and so can’t recreate it on command...

It happened two or three times on Saturday, not once on Sunday that I could tell, and once today not even 15 minutes ago. Nothing under the truck seems to be amiss, and this noise is extremely intermittent unlike the noise it was making five months ago.

I’m driving out to Carlisle for a swap meet this weekend, it’s a round trip of over 250 miles, and I’d like to know my brakes are in good working order; Any suggestions?

NOTE: My truck got new brakes all around last fall and I’ve got maybe 8,000 miles at most on the oldest parts (Like 5K on front pads).

The front rotors do not appear to be scored or damaged in any way; Could there be unseen damage I don’t see? Will delaying this much longer mess up my brakes?

as long as you got pad material its probably the pads maybe are aftermarket or a stone/pebble got between the pad/rotor I had one in mine screeched like hell but finally dislodged itself, if it bothers you yank off the tires take a look see

The consensus seems to think it’s a pebble lodged in the caliper...

Right it sounds like you have some kind of debris stuck in the caliper or drum

If it is the standard brake squealing, you have nothing to worry about except the noise.

If you are really worried and don't know how to check the brakes, take it to someone that does know how and have them checked.

My mechanic is looking into that brake noise today, so the front wheel skins had to come off...

Mine used to be chrome; I bought them on Amazon and immediately sent them to my Uncle Jeff’s wheel repair business in Myrtle Beach where he painted them gunmetal metallic!

I like that gunmetal metal rim upgrades, sets off the truck nicely I think, better than black or bronze options IMO

I was gonna go with black, but I decided against it because I thought it blended in with the tires too much. I used to have 16" aftermarket wheels in black that I had installed in October 2013, but they had a very unique tire size that was not available in white letter, so I went back to the stock 15" steelies and got the Cooper Discoverer AT/3s...

So, it looks like the brake noise was caused by tire shine getting on the brake rotors in the drive-thru car wash...
