Nope we have Fred Meyer(Kroger) Safeway and WinCo. Fred Meyer is 1/2 mile from my house. They also sell clothes, shoes, garden, tools, toys and electronics. Love that place.

We had Fred Meyer in Washington 20 years ago; That's where my parents bought my Razor scooter...

Is Fred Meyer a wholesale club Costco or BJ's (members only)?

At Meynard's you pay for what you want inside the store then they tell you to drive around the side of the store and show the security guard your receipt. Then they open the gate into any area the size of several football fields, it sucks so bad trying to find what you need, spent 3 hours there last time and almost went back in to ask for a refund because it was cold and l was sick of looking.

Is this only since COVID or is this the way they’ve always done things?

Its the way they do business, l wish they had a service desk outside, gave a paper map, or even a phone app to show you where to find things.

I know I posted something about Captain Planet a couple years ago, but I can’t find it...

    :annoyed:

Captain Planet and the Planeteers was on of my favorite shows as a kid, though it was probably no more than two years away from going off the air by the time I started watching it. I seem to remember watching it well into the late nineties in rerun form (series finale was in 1996).

Well, I bought the entire series on iTunes last night and watched a few episodes; The show has aged well, aside from the fact that certain things are distinctly early nineties. After watching the episodes for the first time in probably two decades, I can tell you that I’m surprised my mom let me watch it! Most of the episodes deal with the typical environmental stuff, but other episodes deal with some pretty heavy shut!

This includes, but is not limited to...

    • AIDS/HIV
    • Unprotected sex (mentioned in the HIV/AIDS episode
    • Gun violence
    • Drug use/overdose (including main character Linka's beloved cousin dying)

I may confusing an episode of Captain Planet with an episode of Jonny Quest that I watched the other night, but both shows make no attempt to hide the fact that some people die particularly gruesome deaths.

Some of the dialogue in Captain Planet is rather cheesy, but the shows ultimate message still rings true today!

When I was in kindergarten, my infatuation with Captain Planet was in high gear; I forget what the occasion was, but sometime in 1994 or 1995, my dad let me pick out a Captain Planet toy at the store (I have no idea what store it was, but I’m pretty sure it was not Toys R Us)...

Back then, Wheeler (the redheaded guy from Brooklyn) was my favorite, so I chose a Wheeler action figure that came with some sort of personal transportation vehicle; With regards to my favorite character, it is now a tossup between Wheeler and Linka (the attractive blonde who hailed from the Soviet Union; The series debuted in 1990, but when the USSR collapsed and the iron current fell, Linka’s nationality changed from “Soviet” to simply “Eastern Europe”, thought it’s pretty damn obvious that she’s Russian).

I brought my Wheeler toy to show-and-tell when it was brand new, played with it for about a year, and then misplaced it when we moved from Pennsylvania back to California in 1996; After that, it either got sold at a garage sale or it is still packed away in the basement somewhere.
