I live in Ontario, Canada and when I bought our Honda Civic 10 years ago which is built in Alliston, Ontario, the owner of the company which I was working at the time said I should of bought something that supports North Americans. The parts guy informed him that it was Canadian built and all his Dodge Ram pick-ups were built in Mexico but he just said that Dodge was still American and Honda's were Japanese even though they had headquarters in USA. Like religion and politics, people are steadfast on their beliefs so just ignore them. I take my Tacoma there once and awhile to really piss him off.

I haven’t uploaded it yet; Still two hours from home, and afraid of posting due to multiple uses of an ethnic slur by the aforementioned drunk guy…

I have traveled internationally for many years. It very easy to spot an American. They are typically very round. Then arriving back to USA, the number of big people is hard to not notice.

On the whole, Americans are overweight......by a lot.

Kinda hard to steer clear of the asshole when the asshole steps in front of your truck on a narrow path with trucks and other people on either side, and holds his hand up for you to stop…

I’ll try to keep it short.

My 4 grandparents were Japanese, my parents were born in the internment camps, I was born in LA. I’ve always called myself Japanese but really I’m an American. I don’t speak a bit of Japanese. Well, I know how to ask for the bathroom in Japanese and Spanish, important.

When someone says go back when you came from, I say I was born here and I’ve had family here in LA for over 100 years, where do you want me to go? It’s really rare but it does still happen.

At one point I found myself trying to predict when something might happen. But I decided it’s a form of prejudice, pre judging what someone might do because of how they appear or look at me. So everyone is given a chance to be normal. What it taught me is someone can appear scary mean but be a friendly person.

I’ve owned American brand and Japanese brand vehicles. My opinion, American brand vehicles built after the 60s are low quality with a few exceptions.

Once a Japanese woman from Japan was trying to keep me from using their public restroom. My response was you think I’m dirty, you think you’re better than me? The manager grabbed my hand and dragged me away before it escalated further.

When it happens, like what you experienced, I try to do nothing unless they touch me. I think this is the best approach. Although if I’m in a mood, I’ll snap back. I think ignorant people enjoy showing their ignorance. They enjoy the response they might get even more. It’s best not to give it to them.

I know exactly where I was when I realized that Toyota was on to something. I was working overseas. Our staff car was a '05 diesel ranger (pictured here with our driver successfully navigating traffic)

    IMG_4893.jpg

That truck wound up being the biggest POS. Always breaking down, and parts were hard to come by there. It had a hard time drinking the less-than-stellar quality fuel. Engine harness corroded out within 3 years. Had to disconnect the front driveshaft thanks to siezed lock hubs.

We kept finding excuses to borrow the boss's Prado, but he tended to get real pissy whenever we used it to restock the lab supplies. Pssh.

    IMG_5087.jpg

    Angola_0041.jpg

The Prado and ranger both shared the same maintenance routine, the same staff drivers, same milage, same wear and tear (though my boss hated that last part). But the Prado never failed us.

At the club where all the expats hang I befriended a Dutch dude employed at Maersk, cool guy. We both had some time off so he invited me to go trek into the country on a weekend camp trip. He had a Hilux. Taking a Hilux into the real African bush was magical. It was a flawless machine. I was in love. That was the trip that instantly evaporated my years of being raised in a "buy 'murican, the rest is crap" household. I knew I had to have one of these.
    Angola_0223.jpg

But as for the "buy 'murican," drunk shit birds are going to be drunk shit birds. Life's too short to even engage with them.

Actually, it was a Pontiac Torrent, which is just a rebadged 1st Gen Chevy Equinox and certainly not a Toyota design; Does look a bit like a Pontiac Vibe though...

I only found out what "SAW" stood for a couple weeks ago; One of my coworkers was in the 82nd Airborne and deployed in Falluja, and he told me what it stood for. I knew it was a machine gun, but I did not realize that it stood for "Squad Automatic Weapon"...

I was more shocked than anything; I knew the guy was drunk, but drunk people at the Truck Nationals on Saturday night are generally very friendly; Usually when a drunk show attendee approaches me while I'm in the truck, they're trying to goad me into doing a burnout...

That actually happened probably ten minutes before my encounter with the drunken misinformed "patriot"; I was driving up a slight hill, and I had both windows down down. I also had the A/C on because it was still kind of warm despite being like 8pm; I was listening to Brooks & Dunn, and this group of people starts begging me to "light 'em up." I have unintentionally done "burnouts" in my truck before, but whenever I do it on purpose, it consists of burying the accelerator from a dead stop on a dirt or gravel road. I told this guy (who was also drunk, but one of the standard issue friendly drunks mentioned above) that my truck's stereo system had more power than the engine; He laughed and asked me again to do a burnout. I had been in the process of driving up a deceptively steep hill, but he was being nice and I was on the designated unofficial burnout hill (where event security looks the other way and won't bitch you if you don't get carried away), so I decided to give it a go...

As I said, I am in a nearly 12-year old 4-banger/slushbox pickup with almost 137K miles, and this truck has traction control that is specifically designed to prevent loss of traction; I was also told that removing the fuse for the ABS could make a burnout easier...?

Anyway, it went as you might expect it in a 4-cylinder truck on a hill; I got a slight chirp out of the back tires and the truck bucked, but it was about as far from a smoke show as one could get. We laughed it off and I drove away; I should mention that I can easily do a burnout in 1st gear in my friend's 3.4L/5-speed truck by dumping the clutch...

For some reason the end of the final chase scene in Terminator 2 comes to mind; Wasn't the tanker that the terminator stole full of liquid nitrogen?

Good thing we won WWII. Pearl Harbor was a bit more than “meddling” and Nazi Germany was what modern day China is becoming today.
I pass on the woke revisionist history movement.

This is about as far as I read through the post. Just fantastic. I think it can make me a better person if I apply this to many things. Thank you.
America, lots of freedoms here, including free to chose whatever vehicle you desire.
I've never had anyone give me a hard time about my Tacoma. Maybe some ribbing from guys that pull a camper or horse trailer a few times a year with their 1 ton diesels.
