    Scratch that last part; Mechman does not presently make an alternator for the 2.7L (or anything but the 4.0L for that matter). :(

    Mine actually died while on a road trip...made it to an auto parts store and luckily I found the larger Amp alternator...130amp I believe. I think it was about $160 after core charge was returned. Been good ever since.

    I'm not the expert but I'll take a stab at it... There is no one-size-fits-all "BEST" alternator for everyone.

    First limiting factor would be your factory power wiring to the battery/alternator/starter i.e. "the big three". If you want a higher output alternator you need to upgrade this first - no exceptions.

    Beyond that you have two options: Find a shop that can rebuild/rewind your existing alternator and decide if you want a higher output diode installed, or buy an aftermarket product and deal with the challenges of getting it integrated to your vehicle.

    Personally I have a very good alternator & starter shop near me and I would have them rewind & install bigger diode.

    One of those things that seems innocent and easy but there is a big rabbit hole of information you will dive down. Lots of info on this board and many other forums. You have 40k posts on TW so I'm sure you are already an expert using the search function. Good luck.

    The one I was looking at was 240 amps; Better to have the extra power and not need it than the other way around...

    I guess the biggest question I have is whether or not an alternator intended for the 4.0L will fit on my engine...?

    Because I cannot find an alternator for the 2TR-FE with an amperage above factory specs...

    How old is your battery? Have you had your alternator tested?

    @BassAckwards have you upgraded your alternator yet on the 2.7L?

    Charlie, Sorry for my last posting, I have a weird sense of humor at times, at those times I should sometimes say nothing.

    I know when I have problems with my Tacoma it causes me anxiety (especially in these Tacoma overpricing covid times) and thought humor might lessen your anxiety about the oil consumption problem.

    I wish I had your Halloween spirit (not just a ghost spirit either) and wished I could be so creative to make my Tacoma look like that.

    Again, sorry Charlie, I will remove that posting and hope my previous postings before the last can help you a little in solving your oil consumption problem.

    Peace ~ Mark

    No worries :D:fistbump::):thumbsup:

    Well, it looks like the oil consumption will be solved by the PCV replacement; If not, then I have every intention of replacing the valve cover gasket before 150K. It will be at either the 145K oil change or the 150K oil change, but after I get the frame replaced.

    Thanks Charlie, for your forgiveness, it made my day, as I felt bad after making that posting the way it came across, and it's equally great to hear the PCV replacement will solve your problem and be one less thing to worry about.
