People I know say I should buy a new vehicle because my truck because my truck is old (So what?), has over 100K miles (It's a Toyota), and has manual windows (less to break); I ask them if they'd be willing to make the payments on a new vehicle and it usually shuts them up!

I hope not; I say again that I want a house, dammit! Preferably in a neighborhood without a homeowner's association!

I was told there would be a labor charge for installing one set of shock absorbers (I forget whether it was front or back)...

I would buy in a neighborhood with no HOA; Houses in the middle of nowhere generally have septic tanks. My Grandma just spent about $20K replacing the one at her lake house in Maine just because it got old and wore out; The house was built in 1980 and I believe it has the original septic system.

However, my aunt and uncle's old house in Northern Virginia was built in 1981 and had a septic tank, and they bought the house in 1994; I don't believe they ever had to totally redo the septic system in the more than 20 years they lived in that house.

I think the system at the Maine house is a bit more rudimentary...? :notsure:

I would still rather have a house with all-public utilities; Our place in Doylestown that we lived in from 2005 to 2007 had public sewer but a private well, and whenever we lost power we couldn't turn on the sinks, take a shower, or the toilets! We would always fill up the bathtubs with water when a big storm came in, so we could manually fill up the toilet tanks in the event that we lost power.

Hate to tell ya but granny got ripped off. My buddy has an excavator and will replace mine when the time comes for a lot cheaper than that. septic tanks don’t wear out, they fail because people don’t use them as directed.

Each quarter you’ll pay the man to use those utilities, save those sheckles over the years and you’ll have more money. That and the water quality of city water sucks, so you won’t be saving anything and still likely need a water treatment system. Buy a generator if power goes out, that solves the issue of well water, or get a larger pressure tank to ride it out.

Maybe that was the cost for both the generator and the septic tank? Both got replaced...

Cab mounts are expensive, but do not come with the new frame.

    Personally I wouldn't bother.

The steering linkage is a tough bastard to change on rusted models, and my last frame the joint actually failed after I knocked it off the rack. It probably be the only thing I'd consider changing.

Steering rack is a big one if it’s leaking. Past that if you’ve got cab mounts and engine mounts already there’s not much else that doesn’t get replaced. Brake lines on the axle do not, rubber lines do not. Maybe do those?

Mounts do not come with a new frame.

Alright; Good advice. I definitely want to replace the original shock absorbers with Bilsteins though, and the truck has 140K miles and a lot of other members have been encouraging me to replace the water pump...

Depending on how they’re pulling the cab, you may not get a labor deal on the pump. The way we do frames at work, the engine stays in the cab. Some dealers do it this way, others pull the engine and trans.

Fronts will be a charge unless supplying quick struts. If they aren’t there’s labor to assemble the shocks.
