I would like everyone's opinion on age differences in romantic relationships, so please respond! :)

I know that one of you is married to a woman 10 years younger, and another of you is married to a woman over a decade older; I see no problem with that whatsoever! :)

My neighbor's mom married a guy in his early 30s when she was 17; This was in Pennsylvania and considered legal. Though this was in the early 1970s, they had a kid (my neighbor) and stayed together until the husband's death in 2020 from COPD; Obviously that relationship worked out okay...

I do not know the specifics of the age of consent in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and honestly I don't even know if the parents of the girl I had a crush on knew she was dating a guy who was old enough to drink; As stated above, it was none of my business...

Also, it's not like she was 13 and he was in his 40s; She was 15 and he was 21. She had absolutely no problem telling me, so I hardly believe it was a big secret among her family and closer friends (though then again, teenagers tend to share more with their friends than their parents); This got me to thinking...

When I was 24, I dated a 19-year old girl I met at community college; The age difference between myself and this girl, and my high school crush and her boyfriend, was virtually identical!

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the girl I had a massive crush on from 2003 to 2005, but...

I learned from mutual friends years after I'd
moved back to Pennsylvania that she lost her virginity probably two or three years before she was old enough to drive, and years before I'd even kissed a girl, much less had sex for the first time...

I'm not gonna go into detail, but while she's on the straight and narrow now, this girl I liked got into a bit of legal trouble for allegedly stalking an ex-boyfriend; My cousin, to whom I am very close and share everything with, thinks that I was more attracted to this girl for her large breasts and the way she dressed than her personality...

    She might be right... :anonymous:

She was very nice to me during the three years I went to to school with her, but the old saying is true...

"You never know the whole story..."

I dont see anything wrong with age difference as in most cases its just a number, the only time it would be remotely off would be a dramatic difference like a 90 year old dating a 19 year old.

Once you leave high school, you should NOT date “kids” in high school.

Other than that, Age difference makes no difference to me.

    That said, I’m single.
Never married, not looking to be married.
If it happens, it happens. But I am certainly not putting forth any efforts to make it happen.

Actually this girl is pretty intelligent and thanks to her own Navy veteran father who had modern CD player installed in the 1987 Nissan pickup he bought new, like knows who CCR is!

I just texted my friend to ask if she knew who CCR was, and she says her favorite song is "Bad Moon Rising", so there's your answer...

On another note, this girl has been a very good friend who has received a lot shit for dating a guy who is literally double her age, and I think that two consenting adults should be allowed to date or even get married regardless of the age difference; They love each other, and that is all that matters!

After talking to my uncle who was a mechanic for many years and still does all the work himself on his 2012 Tundra with over 100K miles (He lives in Florida, where they don't have annual emissions tests and safety inspections that require a licensed mechanic), I have determined that the noise I am talking about is likely totally normal for even a well-maintained engine with the miles my truck has on it (Just over 144K as of this post); What my uncle thinks the noise is, is the result of an old engine being noisier due to the oil not being warmed up yet. This is especially pronounced on really cold days, and once the engine reaches optimum temperature in a matter of minutes, the noise pretty much goes away!

    This, or pistons.

Op, Is it only when starting? I wouldn't add anything to the oil unless I was planning on flushing it. Like seafoam or something to clean those injectors, let it run for a bit maybe a very short drive no more than 50 miles, then oil change.

If it's only when starting and is more of a metal on metal sound it could be pistons. Maybe send some Blackstone samples in and see if there is excess chromium or other metals in your engine oil. Otherwise it's just guessing u less your taking off the valve cover and such...

A video of the sound would help. Also, if it's more prominent on cold days rather than warm, but could still be either of those things.

This is coming from a guy whose good friend does stuff with his wife in the bedroom that makes "50 Shades of Grey" look like a children's book, so maybe I'm bit more open-minded than others... :D

    @shakerhood

My cousins's first car that she bought entirely with own money was a beige 1996 Volkswagen Jetta with crank windows and 5-speed manual transmission; The car had A/C, but that was about the only creature comfort it had. She bought it in 2001 or so, and paid cash.

She has owned two Honda Civics since selling the Jetta in 2010 (a 2010, and the 2018 that she still has), and the other day on the phone we were talking about what an utter shitbox that damn Jetta was...

My cousin lives in San Francisco, and all cars newer than 1975 registered in all but one rural county in California must get an emission test every two years (known as "getting smogged"); My Taco made it to nearly 144K miles before the oxygen sensor shit the bed, and to date has never failed an emissions test. Pennsylvania requires an emissions test every year for gasoline-powered vehicles under a certain GVW in 25 out of 67 counties, whereas California is every two years and only when the vehicle is older than about five years, but Pennsylvania is far less stringent than California; That said, before the Jetta was a decade old, it would fail smog every time and need a new oxygen sensor as a result. The car became a money pit, and my cousin was amazed when she brought the 2010 Civic for its first smog test, and it passed the first time with no issues!

Maybe not night and day but anything helps..plus kinda offsets the cost. Though I reckon back in my 20s my beer drinking would put your truck to shame :)

This. If the CEL trips and gives you the same code, deal with it then. Generally speaking unless my truck is running like junk and I get a CEL, I clear it and go about my day in most cases (example, ERG type code). If it returns then it isn't just a hiccup.

I'm adjusting for inflation but Click and Clack used to say it almost always is better to fix versus purchase another vehicle. Even though it might hit a lot at once, generally it costs 600-800 a year to keep it going (these days I think $1000-1200 is more accurate though, go with that). OK that's something but, can you buy another car for $100 a month? Sure can't..and even if you do buy a $1200 car you don't know what you're getting versus your current vessel.

Forget if I posted before but my 86 Olds Calais Supreme puked the sensor at 80-something K. Might have not been the original even but either way that's much sooner than 144K.

Gonna mull your age post over a bit, though I believe you'll know my general feelings.

I'm the "over a decade older" haha, met at 41 and 28..began dating at 41 and 29. Now 60 and 48.

Prior to her my long relationships were:
Me 20 and her 17, I turned 21 shortly before ending it.
Me 21 and her almost 18, ending at 27 and 23.

In both those cases before we started being anything but friends I made her introduce me to her parent(s), make sure they knew my age, and gave their blessings. Had they not approved, I would have definitely honoured their wish.

I did briefly date a 21 year old when I was 27 or 28. At that age I didn't do the "meet the parents and get permission" thing. I found out after a while she was lying to her mother about my age and that ended that.

I do agree with the quote at the end. In some cases, there is a good reason..different people interact with different people in different ways. That said I do believe the old axiom about "truth is always in the middle somewhere", though I'll hasten to add I feel it is ALMOST always in the middle somewhere myself.
