I still would never trust a GM as my daily, and damn sure they as a company will try to screw you any way possible

A few additions to make me feel cool.
HEY! If you don't mind dropping $10k randomly when your 5.3 drops a lifter and eats the cam after being babied with the oil changed with Amsoil every 5k then there is nothing wrong with a GM. LOL... I am and always have been a diehard bowtie guy. Have had many Toyota's and you cannot beat them as a daily. Currently I have 5 GM's in my fleet of vehicles so at least I have a few backup vehicles if one goes down.

Last year I finished building a 350 for my 86 square body project and installed that. I had budgeted for it and for that phase I spent about $7,000. Then 20ish days later my 2010 Silverado with relatively low miles decided to eat the cam and that cost me a new crate 5.3. With it installed and all the logical parts replaced at the same time that was a little over $10,000. Now whenever I give my wife shit for buying something she calmly says "how many motors are we budgeding for this month? 1 or should we just assume we will buy 2?" I never liked her!

Making a scrap run for work today, but since I refuse to bring my truck anywhere near that scrapyard for obvious reasons, my supervisor is letting me take one of the company trucks!

You mean like how my 5 year old Colorado ate the head and I was told "oh that sux, $5k please!"..then I found the secret warranty on it that the dealer didn't know about (plus being in the powertrain warranty)?

Or how that same dealer after getting approval to do the head under warranty said "no you have to pay me up front first"

Or the other one who billed me separate for a timing set and said "oh GM will reimburse you but I can't release the vehicle without payment right now"..

Or where GM told me "oh no the dealer could have gotten approval from us to do it free, we aren't going to do anything for you though"

My favorite was the GM rep telling me this is normal for a 5 year old, 70K motor used as a commuter vehicle to disintegrate. He said he heard about the Toyota frame rot..I proceeded to regale him with my wife's 1996 Tacoma saga and all Toyota did for her. I said "you tell me what's more normal, a 13 yr old truck rusting or a 5 yr old truck blowing the head (which you know they're doing bc you wrote that extra warranty..and if you can really say this is more normal, you're not building a decent "PROFESSIONAL GRADE" product or inspiring my confidence in that or your business practices". Suffice to say that truck was dealt in short order for my 2010 Tacoma..still got that 9 years later

I’ve never been to a scrap yard an come out ahead.

I’d rather pay someone else to take it off.

Or Ram and the 5.7. If you are lucky, the tick is a broken exhaust manifold bolt.
If it isn’t, it is probably a lifter/cam resulting in wiping the lobe clean off the cam.
In between would be a broken valve spring.

90% of the time, it’s the exhaust studs. So it’s not “too bad”.

I don’t know why push rod motors were so reliable, then all of a sudden they weren’t?

Perhaps, but it's not that it broke. It's that the company swindled me any way possible.

Look at our frames, that shouldn't happen ideally either but Toyota did right by us.

This is a result of two deer running into me here in southern Missouri last fall. two weeks after I moved here from NH...It happened at night. I never saw them...the body shop determined it was two deer.

2010 taco, 150K and it wasn't totaled. It was about 7K worth of damage. They replaced the whole left side (fenders and left rear door) and repainted the truck. It looks new.

OP, your damage looks a lot like what my truck had. I doubt it'll be totaled.

Yikes..I hit a deer two different times in my Oldsmobile Achieva and that sucked.

What is the piece in the first picture, headlight?

No, the left rearview mirror. You see in the bottom picture where it used to be attached.

I do a lot of backing up here and I can't tell you what a PITA it is trying to do that with that mirror missing, especially since I have to haul water in a water carrier in the bed and I couldn't see out of my windshield mounted rearview mirror at all..

This happened late October and I wasn't able to get it in for repair until late January. They did a good job though. Almost looked like a new truck.

Yup I see that now that you mention it. UGH

First time I was lucky, zero damage. Hit it in the flank as it ran across the road. Second I wasn't as lucky, it spun sideways and caved in both passenger doors though at least they still opened. I just pulled the panels, pushed out best I could, got the check and fixed mechanical stuff the car and my wife's truck needed for inspection.
