This is actually two houses, though it may only be one family living in the building at this point; I don't think I would have spent thousands of dollars to put a ductless mini-split A/C unit in a house that's probably going to be torn down in the next decade or two...

Don't understand your fascination with that dump, but you're far from alone. If you return I recommend wearing solid boots when you're exploring on foot. I'd be amazed if there were no needles (not sewing needles) amongst the debris.

 

Lube pits weren't all that uncommon in residential garages years ago, the cost is very low especially compared to the professional only hydraulic lifts available during the same era.

Think of it this way, every homeowner/car guy today who has a lift in their private garage would be the same guy who had a pit back then.

I feel ya, however I think it would be hard to get this property listed in the NRHP- These are the criteria for listing a site

 

It's not my battle as although I often go to PA, I'm neither a local nor a PA resident. There is historic significance to the site as it was the center of fierce labor union battles & a breeding ground for the famous/infamous (depending on your perspective) Molly Maguires. It's moot anyhow for the reasons you cited earlier.

 

I had my Merrills on last time when there was snow on the ground, but I was already in Hamburg (halfway there) when I made a snap decision to go up there, and I only had my sneakers. I pretty much stayed on actual roads and trails when I was outside the truck. Probably gonna wear boots next time though; Next I go, it'll either be with my dad in his Yukon or a couple of friends in one of their AWD SUVs...
