So many cars have it and it drives me batshit crazy in ours. I was supposed to have a delete component in the mail today that I order on March 3 and it didn't show. Sourcing another version...STAT!

My wife had a Honda Passport last year (thankfully, it's gone and we now have a Highlander) that had this. After reading around on some Passport forums, I was able to wire a timer into the switch wiring that automatically "pushed" the switch for me 3 seconds after startup. The timer was adjustable with all kinds of settings and time delays. Apparently though, anything sooner than 3 seconds would have been too soon after startup to initiate the "off" signal. Completely reversible feature so when we sold the vehicle the warranty was still intact. Hid the timer in the center console. Worked like a charm. I HATED the auto shutoff feature. I swore I would never own another vehicle with that feature.

They do but it has to be pushed every time you start the vehicle. Yes, I was petty enough to disable it completely. Ha.

I still don't fully grasp the concept of these, as it seems that a vehicle would produce more emissions at startup than if it was already running...?

It was so annoying and I, like you, feel it would wear out a starter really fast. Not to mention there is a delay after sitting at a stop when trying to accelerate that did not sit well with me at all. Made me feel very uneasy.

Also, what's running the A/C on a hot day if the engine shuts off? Not like it's a hybrid with electric backup!

The RAV actually did a good job taking on the first recycling run of the week!

At cold start yes, IDK about warm start...

I could be remembering wrong, but I think at least on the Chevy Malibu I had the AC being on would cause the stop/start to not work. Just for funsies, try that on the Rav and see what it does.

I'm pretty sure the the engine did shut off once while I had the A/C on, but it wasn't hot enough to really notice a difference; If it gets warm enough while I still have the RAV, I will try. One time, probably 7 years ago or so, my dad rented a UHAUL truck; I forget what we were using it for as I'm pretty sure it was before we moved...

Anyway, it was a 2006-2007ish Ford E450 box van, with dual rear wheels and I'm assuming the 5.4L gas V8 under the hood; It definitely was not a diesel, and while it scooted along nicely for how big it was, it did not seem to have the oomph of a V10. Therefore, I'm guessing it was a V8...

The A/C worked great in the sense that it blew ice cold air and efficiently cooled the relatively small cab; However, the A/C would literally cut out under hard acceleration, especially up hills...

My truck's A/C will blow sorta warm for a few seconds under heavy acceleration, though this isn't as noticeable since the evap core was replaced in 2018, but the blower fan doesn't lose power; The A/C in the UHAUL would actually lose power and blow almost no air at all under heavy acceleration. It also started sucking in humid outside air and didn't blow cold at all; Once we reached the top of the hill and/or got back down to normal speed, the A/C resumed normal operation.

That Uhaul truck was probably a decade old at the time, had a little over 100K miles, and was in decent shape for being part of the most abused vehicle fleet in North America (at least in my opinion); My dad and I could not figure out what the deal was with the A/C!

If Butch doesn't text me any pictures, I'm gonna drive there after work; I was there yesterday to grab my EZ Pass from the truck in case it isn't finished by the end of the week, and work had not started on the truck yet. I really don't give a shit because I'm not paying for any of this, but there's a car show at the Greater Philly Expo Center this weekend and I'd really prefer to be in my own vehicle for a trip that requires going on the turnpike...

Did you hit 200K yet? I expect to hit 200K by late 2024 or early 2025 if I still have the truck; I don't have any plans to sell it, but am currently paying more for a $0 deductible in the event something happens to my truck that isn't my fault. I don't trust nature or other motorists!
