There actually is a place near me called DiggerLand where you pay like $300 to tear apart a car with a bulldozer! The park is sponsored by JCB and they have a fleet of real equipment that you can use!

What I'd like to know is why the average MPG readout on the RAV4 is so inconsistent; When I first picked it up, it was showing an average of 25 MPG, but that dropped a tiny bit during the last few days I've had it (Not by much though)...

The second time I fueled up (as I got it with a half tank), I divided the miles driven since the last fuel up by the gallons burned,m, and it had averaged 17 MPG despite showing nearly 25 MPG on the readout... o_O

This led me to believe that maybe my truck is actually getting better mileage than I thought; If I go by what the RAV4 gets versus what I calculated, then my truck should actually be averaging around 19-21 MPG around town! Could this be possible?!?!

It could be that it is calculated “faster” than other vehicles. It’s all time based.
If you want to “improve” the MPG. Switch it to instant MPG. You can get a good idea on how much driving style play a roll on MPG.

Maybe extra weight from your scrapyard run? I wouldn't waste time worrying about it my man; you'll soon be back in your Taco. Anyway, I don't rely on the gauges. Hand calc provides the real number.

So, have driven 177.8 miles since the last fill-up with 75 miles to go until empty, this is what the fuel gauge in the RAV4 looked like; I'm assuming it's a smaller capacity than my Taco's gas tank...?

I did the "Hold OK to Reset" after refueling, and the system had to reset itself...?

I was averaging 9.4 MPG when I left BJ's, but I managed to get up to 19.1 on the way home; This was when I pulled into my driveway...

This was my average MPG when I divided the miles driven since the last fillup (177.8) by the gallons used (just under 9) and it came to just under 20 MPG; That's about a 4 MPG difference from the dashboard readout, so I suspect that my truck is actually getting 17-18 MPG around town and 21-22 on the highway...

The manual says it has a 14.5 Gallon tank.

Most manufacturers seem to have the “warning” light come on with 2.5-3.0 gallons of gas left in the tank.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
The mileage calculations are based on a "trip" so lots of little trips around town leaning on the throttle will display some relatively low results. I just filled up Sunday morning and drove to our other house about 140 miles and then back, then filled up again. Most all on the freeway, it was showing 29.xx and my math calculation miles/gallons was 30.xx. Most of that freeway driving was at 75-80mph into a very stiff and cold headwind. Last week I was at 30.xx, also under nearly identical conditions. It's always windy as hell driving this part of highway 101 south of Salinas, CA.

supposedly all the red lights stop and go traffic, saves gas but Still very annoying. Also i guess they have a bigger starter so its not supposed to go bad as quick.
