And that one is a '96, the only year to have the little upswept windows behind the rear power window. '91-'95 all met even with the bottom window molding. Also, at least in the SSs, '96 was the only year with analog gauges and a center console shifter.

Not that a '96 Impala SS is one of my dream cars or anything...

Yeah, this poll is lame sauce. No '68 Belvedere or '74 Monaco either.

Kind of. Before the SS rolled out to the public, Chevy was selling these fleet as Caprice to police departments. I used to work at a Chevy dealership that held the second or third largest fleet department in the US. We had tons of the Caprices floating around. Early adopter police departs all got the big 6L V8. Then replaced them with the V6 after the kept getting into 'loss-of-control' accidents.

The thread is for 92-present vehicles, or a Dodge Monaco would have been my top choice because this

In the episode "Ten Million Dollar Sherriff," Rosco inherits $10 million, as the title implies. Among other things, he buys a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow which he [ruins] by transforming into a police car...

When Boss Hogg saw this car for the first time, he asks "What kind of nincompoop does this to a Rolls?"

Rosco responds by saying "A rich nincompoop, that's who!"

But serious, the SY (chassis code) is one of the best motorcars ever produced by Rolls-Royce. What Warner Brothers did to this car was a travesty...

Yup. Which is why they stopped buying them. When they were in the shop, they were there for a long time waiting on parts and the repairs were big bucks.

If a 1st Gen can survive U.S. military service in the Middle East, then I firmly believe that ANY Tacoma can handle ANYTHING a police department or other law enforcement agency can throw at it!

True.. and this one has the easy life, just cruising on Venice everyday. Writing tickets and arresting people who sit at the beach all day on drugs

Most cops here drive 4runners, Challengers, Ford Explorer Interceptors, Chrysler 300's my favorites are the 4runners

Do police have to buy their own cars there? All of them look pretty optioned out... that Chrysler's an SRT8, yeah?
