While I do agree with you on the fact that one probably shouldn’t get too defensive at picture taking at a car show. I can also understand to some degree why some people might. Like I said before, I try to look at things from other peoples point of view. Maybe he just wasn’t used to anyone being so interested, and thought maybe you were a spotting potential targets. It happens, and more than you would think.

I live in East Tn where they hold a huge Rod Run every fall. Just about every year, people have their cars stolen right out of the parking lot of the motel at night. Sometimes they steal the truck, trailer, and car.

I'm amazed that people aren't more careful with theft prevention efforts, and of course I'm also amazed that people are so unaware of the natural inquisitiveness of people with autism...

Those are both great philosophical questions that most organized religions try to provide answers to but unfortunately no one knows for absolute "fact" what we may experience. The only factual answer that I can give you is that there are positive energies and negative energies in this world we live in and it appears that Jim was full of positive energies. Regardless, no matter how his energy remains in your life, the positive memories you have of him will remain with you, mold you, and help past it to others.....essentially keeping who he was to you active inside you.

My step-grandpa died in 2017 at the age of 93. The last car he ever owned was a 1993 Lincoln Continental that he bought used in 1994 and had it until 2004 when my aunt borrowed it and blew the engine; I still haven't fully forgiven her for that...

My grandparents shared the 2002 Lexus RX300 until he was forced to give up his driver's license due to health issues in 2010. The cost of repairing the Lincoln exceeded its cash value so they scrapped it, and at my request, my uncle took the badges and hood ornament off before it went to the junkyard. For years (from the end of 9th grade well past the end of high school), I wore the hood ornament on a dog tag chain around my neck, and then as I grew older I realized that a homemade Lincoln necklace wasn't exactly something adults wore. For a couple years, it remained in a safe place in my room, and then after he passed in 2017 hung it from the rearview mirror in my Tacoma; I see the hood ornament as a piece of my grandpa, and by keeping it in my truck at all times, I believe that his spirit is always riding with me. I also believe that my Grandpa's spirit prevented a metal pipe from smashing through my passenger window and hitting me in the head this past February. Specifically, there was a freak accident at a metal recycling facility that resulted in $3,000 worth of damage to my truck. I was not injured and the scrapyard's insurance company paid to fix my truck.

If you go back a few pages, you will see a picture of a "Zombie" patch, which was a gift from Jim just over three days before he died; Helen wanted him to wait until Christmas to give it to me, but he knew that October was a month and a half away, and that I planned on decorating my Tacoma in the "Zombie Outbreak Response Team" garb for Halloween. Because he personally handed me that patch in his living room, three days before he passed away, it is now priceless to me.

No, my friend who was going to help me had to work, and this was also planned before Jim died. It is going to be on September 4th, which is the earliest weekend my friend Dave will be available; I have never applied Fluid Film before, but Dave has, and I don't want to mess something up...

I understand that, I haven’t applied it heavily like you guys up north do.
I just hit the parts I can get too easily. And try my best to keep it off the exhaust.
I don’t like odd smells coming from my truck.

When you have a 75-pound Labrador who rides in your truck fairly often like I do, that pretty much masks any other smells; I had to jam on the brakes today though, because some idiot who didn't know where were going abruptly turned on their left blinker and stopped suddenly, and I definitely smelled the rubber from my tires...

I’ve had that same experience too.

Just this weekend, it was our fault.
My Uncle, his friend and I had to haul cattle to an Aution.
My uncle forgot to turn the trailer brakes On. He had to come to a stop fairly quick as he almost missed a turn. The trailer pushed the truck right passed the turn by about 10’.
We heard the tires squealing too. Thankfully all was good.

Then, after we unloaded. We forgot to turn the brakes back down.
Which made the trailer tires want to lock up. :rofl:We made there and back in one piece, so I figured we did good!

I think too it might be a fear/lack of understanding today's technology that most of that generation have. The statement about the VIN is why I say that..

You have a very good point there, as the owner of the Blazer did not come across as particularly tech-savvy...

Which, if so, I can completely understand the concerns/fears/etc. That said there are polite ways of expressing those as well.

And I am still amazed that there are classic car owners out there who aren't accustomed to autistic gearheads frequenting these events...

Never know, maybe they don't understand autism or how to tell? Just thinking out loud. No excuse for poor behaviour regardless, ever

I attend more bike events than car events but I've witnessed this at bike events. One issue I personally saw was when a group of Pagans, a one-percenter club, took interest in a very nice restored Harley Davidson panhead. IMO that owner had every right to be concerned about his continued ownership of that bike. I would likely have made arrangements to store it with a close friend for a period of time to insure it staying safe.

I used Body Cavity Wax on my trucks frame, it doesn't stink like a chemical factory and also dries to the touch so you can do work without goop getting all over you.

It is a product from 3M, they usually spray it all inside of difficult areas of your vehicles to prevent corrosion.

Yea, I just looked it up. Know the stuff , but didn't know the proper name. $30 a can , expensive. How does it hold up with rain and wind beating on it ? Does wash off ?
