It won’t hurt anything to unplug it.
It will be same as if you just turned it off with a good alternator.
When the truck is off, itshouldn’t draw enough voltage/current to make a difference one way or another.

The key is to top off the battery before driving each night. (Or while at work)

You will be fine. Unless you’ve drained the battery down to dead multiple times, I think your battery will be just fine:thumbsup:

You should be fine, as long as you aren't running any accessories the engine functions don't take much power to run.

I ran the license plate through Carfax and it comes back to a "1987 International S Series 1654", and it appears to have a Cummins 12V and NV4500...

I've got an 8" Kicker sub wired directly to the battery, but for the last few days once I actually have the truck running for a few minutes, the light goes out and it seems to run just fine...

Would this have been a CDL truck in a previous life, or just under the limit?

Do you have any way to monitor battery voltage? The battery light not being on doesn't necessarily mean the alternator is charging, I've seen many times where one isn't charging and the light isn't on.

I couldn't tell you what kind of diodes they are but all automotive alternators function basically the same, the main difference is in how the regulator works.

Wise advice. It was the battery in my case but when it croaked it would take a boost but not restart even if I shut the truck off one minute. The portable got me at least to the parts store and my parents' house to work on it.

    That'll get it done

    At least don't blast em.

CDL is 26000-something, off my skull. Total weight including cargo. I only know that b/c my niece is a landscaper and can't drive the dump truck if loaded up

I don't know if I ever told this story, but this is one reason I make sure everyone I work with knows that I have autism and the usual sensory issues that come with it. Puck is owned by a lawyer and his wife, and his law firm is right around the corner from where Puck originally was. I would routinely go in the back basement door to grab everything from various paperwork to the biweekly payroll checks for myself and my fellow employees. One time, my boss sent me there to get something (I forget exactly what it was), and I couldn't find it; I texted my boss and told her that I couldn't find it. She told me to take a picture of the desk with my phone and text it to her, and she would see if she could spot it; I had no way of knowing there were confidential documents on this desk...

This woman who worked for the law firm came in and asked what I was doing. She knew who I was and that I routinely made pickups from this office, so that wasn't an issue. I told her what I was doing and just as I was about to take a picture of the desk with my phone, she overreacted and not only started ranting about how there was top secret shit on the desk, but thought it would be a good idea to physically restrain me. She grabbed me from behind and tried to take my phone.

If this had a been guy, he would have ended up on his ass; I am much more at ease around women than I am around men, but if I didn't know this particular woman, things would have probably gone badly. I have a temper and have always reacted strongly to being touched, but while I am reckless at times, I am not stupid. This was a middle-aged woman who was much smaller than me, so pulling myself and my phone out of her grasp without violence was no problem, though I do believe I gave her the classic Charlie "death glare" and told her not to touch me. This was years ago (maybe 2016-2017...?), and while things didn't go badly, I don't remember exactly what was said; I know I told her not to touch me, and she reiterated that there were classified documents on the table. I probably said something along the lines of "Fine, but don't touch me."

I reported the incident to my boss, I do believe she apologized, and nothing ever came of it. There were numerous situations that occurred between December 2014 and January 2019 that were the direct result of miscommunication, and I didn't respond well because my autism-related shortcomings. Like I said, I am very open with employers and coworkers about the fact that I am on the spectrum, and I am pretty sure I get cut a lot of slack as a result.

Well, you were just doing what you were told?
So I don’t se how you could be at fault for anything.
I wouldn’t have thought to look at the papers on the desk.

I don’t pay much attention to things that are any of my business.
So certainly wouldn’t have even give a thought about what the papers where about.
(And to be honest, I probably could care less)

I’m gonna call this not a good plan. There’s plenty of better options out there.

I recall a member who needed an oxygen generator to stay alive, he had an optima yellow top, added a second, and was still having his machine cut off at idle. Then all of a sudden he’s gone, which as you can imagine, probably means he’s gone.

My first optima, a red top lasted 14 years in 3 different cars. Then I put a yellow in my work truck, big mistake, it was a turd.

What I’ve heard is optima was bought by Johnson controls. After that, quality took a dive.

I am the type who would never cause harm to a woman unless my life was in immediate danger, and also getting violent with this woman would cost me my job at a bare minimum; I have absolutely no reservations about cussing out women who piss me off, like the woman who opened her passenger door without looking and guillotined the mirror off of my truck while I was driving by, or that crazy chick I hooked up with last summer who threw a soda can out of my truck while I was driving her home...

When I was in 10th grade, I kicked a girl in the face in self-defense and didn't get in trouble for it; I forget what started this argument, but I called her a "chicken". She was a Korean girl who was one year older than me, and after telling this story to my therapist nearly 20 years later, he believes one possibility is that she thought I said a certain derogatory term for Asian people instead of "chicken".

Regardless of what she thought I called her, it doesn't excuse her behavior. I called her a chicken, and the next thing I knew this girl was barely over five feet tall had tackled my fat ass to the ground and started pulling my hair. She was actually born in Korea and her parents had moved to Northern Virginia in the last few years, so her English wasn't the greatest, but she was screaming "What did you call me?"

We were in the gym class on a half-day, and the gym was full of students and a few teachers. She was pinning me down and pulling my hair, and it hurt like a bitch! I was screaming for help, but I don't think anybody realized what was going on; I did not want to hurt her, but she was really hurting me, and purely out of reflex I flung my leg up and somehow managed to nail her right in the face. She got off me and ran away crying. I immediately went to our gym teacher and explained what had happened in case she tried to get me in trouble. Luckily, my gym teacher believed me, and her response was priceless when the girl who'd attacked me came back trying to garner sympathy...

My gym teacher, this awesome woman in her early 50s named Ms. Beaver said "If you were holding me down and pulling my hair, I would have kicked you in the face too!"

That was that. For the record, I didn't mean to kick her in the face and was merely trying to get her off of me, and she wasn't hurt.

That's another thing; I was doing exactly what I was told by the woman who writes my paychecks. Just about every altercation I got into during my time at Puck was the result of a miscommunication, or another friend/tenant of Puck's owners who thought I was up to no good; I chucked a plastic bottle in the dumpster on Puck property at the wrong time, and some woman who rented office space from the people owned Puck thought I was illegally dumping.

I politely told this busybody Karen that I worked there, and she said "Are you sure?" That set me off, and I told namedropped both my boss and the woman who owns Puck and went into a profanity-laced tirade of how since I worked there, my boss wouldn't give a shit if I tossed one measly water bottle in the dumpster. I also made sure to tell the owner of Puck about the "rude blonde lady in the dark red Toyota Sienna", and she had a chat with her. Problem solved.

Johnson Controls also owns York, and I would install York HVAC equipment in my house. The microchannel coils in York air-conditioners are garbage...

For her jumping on your back assaulting you...cost your job?

I'm not naive to the fact a woman can hurt you...and bad (not saying that you are). I have seen some rather small women kick the living shit out of guys twice their weight, beer bottles/mugs smashed on guys heads/ broken noses/ cut with knives.
