My former teacher's daughter became addicted to heroin and went to rehab, but ended up dying of an overdose while in rehab; I believe she was like 25 when she died...

Her family isn't quite sure how she got the dope while she was in rehab. Was your friend actually suicidal or just in a drug-induced stupor?

While I resent the whole state of NJ being grouped into a “city folk” statement, the bold part is very accurate. But doesn’t excuse that guys behavior. Sure you have read the all too common stories in NY/NJ where road rage ends with a guy pulling a baseball bat or similar and attacking another driver.

Back when I was 17, accidentally cut off a lady. She proceeded to lay on her horn, pass me, cut me off and slam on her brakes. It was very close. A 17 year old shouldn’t have to deal with that due to an honest mistake. But it’s a culture.

Earlier this year, some young kid in a 1990s Miata was pissed at me for accidentally cutting him off. He was speeding to begin with, which probably would have put things somewhat in my favor had an accident actually occurred (I actually have been involved in a very minor accident back in 2013 that was ruled 50/50 by insurance company due to the negligence of the other driver). So, checked my mirror and this guy was going so fast that I didn't see him. Again, he was a in green early 1990s Mazda Miata. I got into the left lane and the Miata swerved around me, illegally passing me in the center turn lane and cutting me off before getting in the right lane.

I was thinking "Okay, whatever asshole". I proceed to continue in the left lane, and this jackass purposely swerves out of the right lane and into the path of my truck as if he was trying to cause an accident. At this point, I laid on the horn because I thought I was going to hit him. He swerved back into the right lane at the last minute, and quite honestly, all I could do was laugh. I'm in a pickup truck that weighs almost TWO TONS and has a bull bar on the front, and you're in a Miata. Gross tonnage wins. Every. Single. Time. :luvya:

I also have a dashcam, which not only captured the idiot illegally passing me in the center turn lane, but also nearly causing an accident on purpose. If the responding officer was in a bad mood, he probably would have ended up in handcuffs! One of the reasons I love having a truck is because most of the idiots that I encounter are driving considerably smaller vehicles (like various compact sedans, and in that case a roadster that barely weighs 2,000 pounds), and I feel safe. I got hit by a drunk driver in a 2002 Mercedes E320 in October 2015, and that car was totaled.

And this happened after Jim passed away but before Jim's memorial service, which also happened to be the day before my truck overheated; I know because I was driving home from a visit with Helen at her house, so it was probably right around a week before my truck overheated. A young 20-something woman in a rather raggedy-looking silver 2009ish Nissan Sentra with Connecticut plates roared up behind me in the right lane, and proceeds to ride my ass. I deal with tailgaters all the time and largely ignore them, but this girl was really getting dangerous close; I say again that were both in the right lane and she could have easily passed me. I was in a pretty shitty mood for numerous reasons, the most obvious being the death of my good friend less than a month earlier.

If there'd been an emergency and I had to stop suddenly, she would have plowed into the back of me, likely totaled her car, possibly totaled my truck, and most certainly had me traumatizing her with an Oscar-worthy portrayal of the Incredible Hulk...

I finally got pissed off and brake-checked her, and she flipped me off, then started looking around hoping someone else had noticed that I'd done this. Nobody did. She then proceeded to finally roar around me in the passing lane, get in front of me quite a distance ahead of me (not cutting me off) and tailgate the vehicle that was now in front of her... o_O:rofl::D

I ended up next this guy in a white cargo van (either a Sprinter or a Transit) at a red light a couple minutes later and we chatted. Turns out that this lovely human being in the Sentra had been riding his ass and cut him off as well, before ending up ...

One can only hope that karma intervenes!

@shakerhood knows all about this crazy chick I hooked up with last summer; I have my share of issues, but at least I'm not a bipolar narcissist like she is! I've known this girl since 2009 when were still in school, and I stopped talking to her in like 2013 because I was sick of her shit. She contacted me out of the blue in August 2021 after at least eight years, and a desire to get laid fueled by a year and a half of COVID restrictions led me to disregard my better judgment and common sense. Maybe you remember the story of the girl who threw an empty soda can out the open window of my truck while I was driving like 45 MPH...? That was her. Walking dumpster fire.

I don’t know. I’ve know 3 people that died from suicide. None of them ever talked about it.
I’d like to think he made a bad decision while intoxicated. But like I mentioned, he just never could get ahead in life from all the drugs he was taking. I guess I can see how one would think there is no hope.
I sure wish he would have said something to someone.

Miss the midnight bike runs after work.

I don't personally know anyone who committed suicide. With the exception of Jim, all were family members. One was my paternal grandpa who died in 2007 from lung cancer that spread to his liver, and the rest were grandparents and great-grandparents who died of old age. Jim, as you know, was my good friend who I came to view as a second father. He was 75, had nonsmoker's lung cancer, and went in for what was supposed to be a routine surgery to remove the cancerous section of lung. The procedure itself was a success, but a blood clot hit his heart not long after and he died on the operating table when his heart stopped; I still haven't fully come to terms with his death.

Yeah, I guess I should have elaborated a bit better.
The only place in New Jersey I’ve been to was Newark.

Up state New York, TOTALLY different. It’s almost like living here in Tennessee.

And yeah, I also don’t like to be grouped in the bunch of Nashville.
No. I’m not from Nashville. Never will be. I stay far away from there.

Serious question, guys; I am on the extremely high-functioning end of the autism spectrum. I have my quirks and shortcomings, but I've got tons of a friends, a job, a 401K, and my own vehicle. Even more than a year later, I feel a bit guilty about having been in a sexual relationship with a girl who has an intellectual disability. This girl I hooked up with was diagnosed at a time when autism and mental retardation ran concurrently. She has a driver's license, but that's about her only accomplishment. Her autism and other intellectual issues are compounded by the fact that she is bipolar. Should I feel bad about doing what I did with her?

I knew a guy that I used to help out from time to time.
He had a knee operation, something happened and he died during the procedure.
He was in his late 80’s. What’s odd is, he actually told his wife he didn’t think he would make it through the surgery.

She has issues, but I was 32 and she was almost 31 when I did stuff with her. From a legal standpoint, she's a consenting adult. Should I still feel bad for doing what I did with her? Oh, and she lost a second toe to diabetes. She was born in 1990, and I believe she will die before 2030 if she continues down the path she's on; I also want absolutely nothing to do with her because she's unpredictable and capable of violence.

I can’t tell you how you should feel.
What I can tell you is, that you probably wouldn’t be asking if you didn’t feel bad.

My best advice is, I wouldn’t do it again and move on with life.
What done is done, and from what I hear about her. There’s no need in contacting her to apologize.

Oh fuck no, I'm not going to apologize; I've severed all ties with her and have one friend who is in limited contact with her largely out of pitty.

She slashed someone's tires a decade ago for reasons I can't remember, but I can tell you that if my truck gets vandalized I'm giving the local police her name and address. The police actually showed up at her parents' house to question her about the tire slashing incident. They didn't have any concrete evidence to file charges, and she proudly told me that her parents told her to just lie about her involvement. With no evidence, the cops couldn't do shit and the investigation was dropped. I live on a culdesac, all of my neighbors know what she looks like, and I told them to call the cops if they see her at my parents' house. Lots of people on the autism spectrum have "savant syndrome", like the Rainman or Forrest Gump. In my ex's case, one of her savant skills is the ability to remember how to drive to places without directions. She has been to my house a few times and I know that she knows exactly how to get there. Luckily, she's not stupid enough to actually show up.

Being that its in the past, its best to try to leave it there. Even if you did feel bad about the situation today, there is no way to go back to change anything.

Best thing you can do in those situations is back off and let ‘em pass. Ain’t worth the effort. Focusing on such a driver takes your attention off the road. I’ve also done that. Nothing like looking at a tailgater in the mirror, looking down and… omg I CANNOT stop. Good times.

There’s a saying. “Never stick your d*** in crazy.” :D

Well I will apologize for your misfortune in visiting Newark.

Go visit the Jersey Shore in the summer next time. That’ll show you the real NJ
