I would really appreciated a response from everybody who I tagged and quoted here... :)

Okay, so the seasonal gig at Spirit Halloween didn't pan out this year; I am not in any danger of getting laid off at my primary gig (working in the warehouse at a defense contractor called NAVMAR Applied Sciences), but while I just got a wage hike to $18 per hour, they can only afford to have me work 24 hours per week under normal circumstances. I refuse to deliver for DoorDash anymore, for numerous reasons.

My two current top choices for a job that will allow me to put away money over the winter are Home Depot and Wegman's, and I am leaning more towards Home Depot for several reasons. I would love to work as a barback on weekends, but getting a job at an independently-owned venue like the gig I used to have is very hard; I was literally offered my job at Puck out of the blue because I had been hanging out there for many years and was good friends with the general manager (Still friends with her).

The most important requirement I have is that employees are not mandated to wear masks; I have autism-related sensory issues that prevent me from wearing a mask for extended periods of time, and I just refuse to wear one anymore. I am fully vaccinated, and aside from being overweight, I am pretty healthy. So yeah, no more masks!

I dont know what the policy is for home depot, lowes here some employees wear masks some dont. Starting wage is prob low to average $12hr. Maybe more in your area.

Just depends if home depot will work with you since you have your primary job. Prob wouldnt be bad if you could get part time at home depot

Home Depot sounds like a good part time gig, providing they don't try to force masks or vaccines on you.

And I am definitely not giving up my primary job because I've got a 401K and paid vacations, I have some seniority and negotiating power, and I just got a wage increase to $18 an hour. Masks definitely are not required at Home Depot or Lowe's here, but some employees still wear them. That's their choice. As stated above, I am fully vaccinated and healthy enough that I'm willing to risk getting infected, so I see no point in wearing a mask.

I am fully vaccinated, with my latest booster being in either late June or early July of 2022; I do not think I am going to get vaccinated again, and I also don't think that entry-level employers are mandating it. I still refuse to wear a mask though. I see a therapist, and the only time I ever wear a mask is for a few minutes in the waiting room because the people who run the practice mandate it. I even refuse to go to my physician for a routine checkup because masks are still required, regardless of vaccination status. My dentist does not require masks for patients or staff, with the obvious exception of the staff is working on a patient's teeth.

I would go with HD. Personally know some people that do quite well there.

Since this thread is supposed to be about autism in addition to my truck, I would like to once again bring up the issue of autism and mask-wearing; I am no anti-mask, but I refuse to wear one for extended periods of time. It's a vicious cycle. Wearing a mask for a few minutes is fine, but the vicious cycle goes like this...

    • My glasses fog up and I can feel my breath going being rebreathed back against my face, which is really annoying.
    • I start to get frustrated.
    • People sometimes can't understand me when I'm wearing a mask (this led to a confrontation with a service writer at the Toyota dealer in 2021, when he told me he couldn't understand me with the mask on, then flipped out at me when I took my mask off)
    • I start to get even more frustrated.
    • I also sometimes feel like I can't breathe in a mask, and depending on conditions, masks tend to absorb sweat.

It is worth noting that I have no problem wearing a painting respirator at work when the task calls for it, as I feel those masks are much more comfortable to wear and much easier to breath in.

    @HomerTaco works for them...

Also, I went to both Wegman's and Home Depot today, and the environment at Home Depot is a lot less stressful for sure; Wegman's is an absolute zoo, even on a Monday!

Homedepot is probably the better choice.
I personally have a small “grudge” against them. But I suppose I’m being petty?

I still shop there. But mostly because they carry Milwaukee tools. Which I own a lot of.

Also, two of my friends with Aspergers are done with masks. My friend Anna has worse sensory issues than I do, and she is legitimately scared of N95s and heavy-duty respirators. She almost quit a job she loved (at a privately owned business) because her boss (the owner) insisted on mandatory masks for all employees regardless of vaccination status, just to basically put on a show for customers, even though customers weren't required to wear masks. She was allowed to remove her mask when there were no customers in the store, but had to put it back on when someone came in... o_O

Anna got vaccinated solely because she believed it meant she would no longer have to wear a mask, and luckily her employer gained some common sense...

My other friend Doug is Jewish. He hasn't been to synagogue in I don't know how long because he got into altercation with an usher in 2021 about having to wear a mask. Doug does not have the sensory issues that Anna has, but certain aspects of wearing a mask annoy him more than they would someone not on the autism spectrum because his senses are "heightened" for lack of a better term. Like Anna and me, Doug is fully vaccinated. His attitude at the synagogue that day was literally "I'm vaccinated, so why the fuck do I have to wear a mask?" I honestly think that being on the autism spectrum should be a legit medical reason for not having to wear a mask.
