I can proudly say I have never watched any “jersey shore” or “Kardashians” (did I spell that correctly? Ah who cares). Personally, I would rather watch family guy or Beavis and butt-head.

A buddy of mine did that a long time ago. The money was decent he said but it cost him some cash for work clothes. You had to wear tuxedo shirt, fancy dress pants, etc. I think he had to pay something to the "house" but I cannot recall for sure. He also mentioned you could barely talk to the girls and the club had strict rules about friendships or more be it at work or not.

I went to NJ 4 years ago. Saw a concert at the Pru in Newark, drove to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty the next day en route to Atlantic City for 3 nights. Not a huge gambler but I play the slots and sometimes blackjack. Had a fun time.

I had to Google Wegmans. Never heard of them. I can't advise you on which would be better because I don't know much about one and nothing about the other. Either way it sounds like you'll be dealing with the public....and that's always a challenge. For every good person out there, there are 3 dreadful creatures. So you'll need to try and pick up on social cues as best you can and learn to curb your temper if you feel things beginning to rise.

As for the mask mandate? I think most places have all but dropped that for now. However, you have to remember that your right to not wear one stops at the door if you choose to work at a place that requires or could require it depending on future conditions. It's private property and they set the guidelines within the frame work of the law. If things get nasty this winter with flu/covid who knows what mandates there may or may not be. Safety always outweighs personal rights. So keep all that in mind.

Ultimately it sounds like these are both retail type positions. I would tend to lean towards the one with the best pay/benefit package....and one that doesn't require a lengthy commute.

FWIW Wegmans is consistently rated as a top place to work based on employee surveys. Decent pay, benefits, and work/life balance. An auto parts store would also be a good choice as most need part time help and quite often include employee discounts as a perk.

I’ve only heard good things from the folks I know who’ve worked for HD. I think that or the earlier suggestion of an auto parts store may be a good fit from the little I know about ya, Charlie :hattip:

Every time I swing into any of my local auto parts stores, they’re a one man crew with a “now hiring” sign on the door. Might be fun to sling parts and turn the occasional brake rotor.

The beauty of it is that Home Depot and Wegman's are both like two miles from my house; I am happy to report that I did not encounter one "Karen" working at the Halloween store last year. My strategy for dealing with Karen customers is to just unload them on a supervisor.

Funny you mention that, because there is a place called Menard's Premium Detailing in my area who does all of the company vehicles for my current employer...

There are two things that annoy me about Wegman's. For some strange reason, they're the only grocery store in my area that doesn't sell Sargento string cheese. They sell other Sargento products, but not the string cheese, which is why I rarely shop there.

Second, I found out that they implemented a plastic bag ban and are charging 5 cents a back for paper at all Pennsylvania locations; I have no idea why the hell they are doing this since Pennsylvania hasn't banned the use of plastic bags and has no plans to do so that I am aware of.

If I were to get a job there, it wouldn't obligate me to work there.

And I really don't feel like detailing cars anymore, at least ones that aren't mine. The detail shop where I worked from September 2018 to July 2019 paid by the vehicle instead of by the hour or a set salary. What this translated to was shitty pay on slow days, and we didn't get paid for doing shit like cleaning the shop at the end of the day. What this often led to was detailers doing half-assed jobs because they just wanted to get home.

Combine that with the lack of air-conditioning in the shop and it's a recipe for disaster.

Ha. States like PA and MD are outliers with free plastic bags. Get used to it.

Wegman's won't even sell plastic bags, and what's obnoxious is that it's only at Pennsylvania stores. Pennsylvania has no plans to outright ban plastic bags that I am aware of. In New Jersey, where they have banned plastic bags, pissed off shoppers are retaliating by not using shopping baskets to carry groceries to their cars and not returning them.

Probably 14-15 years ago, my grandma went full Karen on a Walmart employee who asked to see ID when she returned something, and she had a receipt! I was not with her, but my cousin was, and she told me the full story. The item being returned was clothing of some sort. It didn't fit, so she wanted to return it, and as stated above she had the receipt. The manager ended up getting involved, and my grandma ended up being able to return the stuff without showing her ID.

Another time, possibly in the 1990s, she demanded to see the manager after a cashier looked at her in a way she didn't like. My cousin says we were both there for this incident, and I may very well have been, but I don't remember it. This wasn't a matter of some pervert looking at my grandma and thinking dirty thoughts. If this took place when I think it did, then my grandma was at least 60 years old, and the employee was a teenager. My grandma is an old school "respect your elders" type, and she felt she was being disrespected when the poor kid supposedly rolled their eyes at her or otherwise gave her a dirty look.

I do not remember this incident, but I have been bitched out by my grandmother for "looking at her in a way she didn't like", so I have no doubt that it happened.
