So, the heater in my truck was literally working great one minute and then it suddenly wasn't. My truck did not overheat again, there are no leaks, there is plenty of coolant in the system, and the truck runs fine; I gunned the engine in my driveway, and the heat started blowing hot again. I also took a drive around the block and the heater worked fine for a few minutes before getting cool again. My friend who used to be a mechanic believes there's air in the system and it needs to "burped", and I refuse to lukewarm heat spoil my trip to Centralia tomorrow for a zombie truck photo shoot, so that trip is still on.

What does everybody else think?

 

I think if she's not running hot then you might well just have the air bubble burping.

 

Air in the system is certainly a possibility.
If you are sure it not low on coolant, park the truck on a steep hill with the front of the truck “up” the hill. I had to do this with a Nissan Altama once.
Air floats “up”.

Now, I use a vacuum fill process.

 

That can't be done until Monday, but luckily having lukewarm heat with a forecasted low of 43 and high of 55 tomorrow doesn't bother me...
