I went to Thompson Toyota to look at what they had on the lot, and a salesman told me that if my truck were his, he'd replace the head gasket before he bought a new truck. What does that tell you?

Did they have anything decent in stock or arriving in the near future?

Gray AC SR5 V6, but all the rest seemed to be DCSBs...

Yeah the majority of new Tacoma's are DCSB by a large margin. I think the 4th Gen in 2024 will still have an Access Cab option, but my guess is no more clamshell door but instead mini regular opening doors,

So I looked it up, and allegedly the factory manual does call removing the engine when doing a head gasket replacement on a 2TR-FE. My buddy who is a former Toyota tech is saying that complete engine removal is NOT required; I'm confused.

    He’s a poor salesman.
And honestly salesman, but he’ll probably go broke quick working at a dealership.

I agree with him though, and I’m a self admitted “poor salesman”.

Whatever is easier on the tech, you don't always have to follow the manual. I changed the starter in a Suzuki SUV, the manual stated the exhaust manifold and motor mount had to be removed, l managed to get it out without doing either.

All I want is for my truck to last another 50K miles; I definitely want another truck...

The new Broncos are nice, but dealers around here are massive assholes...

It’s everywhere. Mavericks are 15k over sticker. I won’t even walk in the dealer to look at one.
