Some people see a vehicle as little more than a tool, but I've been through everything with that truck. I took my driver's test in that truck, I commuted to college and numerous jobs in that truck, and it has outlasted relationships with three different girlfriends.

When I worked at Puck as a barback, my truck saved the day on so many occasions that I have lost count. When we were running low on ice and/or booze, I would hop in the truck and get more. One time, a musician whose band was playing one night snapped a guitar string less than an hour before they went on and their van was a bit unwieldy to drive, so I drove him to the music store to get more guitar strings. Another time, yet another musician's old Nissan Maxima suffered some sort of electrical failure a couple blocks from Puck. The car was illegally parked and had much of the band's equipment, and the police were literally about to tow it when I showed up with the band's guitar player riding shotgun. The other band members started schlepping instruments and other equipment up to Puck, while we connected my jumper cables from the Tacoma to the Maxima. Amazingly enough, we got the car started and the owner was able to limp it up the hill to Puck.

I have come to terms with the fact that I will likely have to sell her in the next couple of years if I want to be able to afford both my first house and a nicer, newer truck. However, I feel like selling my beloved truck at a discount with a blown head gasket will be disloyal after all the bullshit she's gotten me through.

My best friend John has been in many bands over the years, but back in 2011, he was still in his original band. Once I got my driver's license, I routinely got recruited to be the band's roadie since I had a pickup; I didn't really mind this. So, in October 2011, John's band Daylight Evolution was playing at this nonprofit charity even in Norristown.

The drummer had a station wagon, but his drum kit was at John's house, and it was easier for him to drive right to the gig instead of picking up his drums. I drove to John's house at the crack of dawn to pick up the drums and at least one amplifier. John had a 1997 Oldsmobile Eight-eight at the time, and he had his guitars with him, and he drove separately. My friend Doug had a driver's license but not his own vehicle, so I picked him up as well if I remember correctly.

I got to the park where the band was playing, and the police had the road to the stage blocked; I rolled down the window, nodded towards the drums in the back of the truck, and was like "Hello officer, I'm with the band. Can you let me in?"

It worked. The police moved the barricades and waved me through as though I was driving some VIP rather than the band's equipment.

My basic belief..as long as the body is sound/solid, it is pretty much cheaper to fix than replace. You're in an especially good spot being that the frame is branny new here additionally. Even if you have it hit harder some years than others, it holds true that your cost to keep a vehicle running is about 800-1200 per year. I think you can push that to 1500/yr in the past couple of years. Now ask yourself..what new/almost new vehicle can I buy for that?

That's a big piece of it, you didn't beat the truck plus you are doing the right things in life.

When I sold my 1997 Oldsmobile in 2007 with 110K miles (got it late 2001 with 40K) I told the lady I hated to let it go because we'd been through a lot together..and I meant it. I wasn't going to tell her part of that was me cracking it up drunk driving though.

GREAT MORNING! What happened roughly an hour ago guarantees that I will be buying my next truck from Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, Pennsylvania! I talked to the same service writer who oversaw my frame replacement last November, and he's gonna match my mechanic's estimate. The dealer price would have been over ten grand in parts and labor, but I'm paying less than $4,800. On top of that, I still get the exclusive-to-Thompson 2-year warranty on parts and labor, it's gonna take 3 or 4 days instead of Pete's estimated 10, and I get a free loaner! Even better is that my truck will be done more than a week before Halloween!

I am still bringing my truck to Pete for new tires and to get the damned backup camera replaced the Friday after Halloween, as no place has been able to beat Pete's price on a set of Cooper Discoverer AT/3s.

I am buying my next truck at Thompson. If I absolutely have to bring my truck to a dealership, I will only be bringing it to Thompson. They are also the only dealer within 10 miles of my house that sells Tacomas at sticker.

That's great! I know it's hard to believe but sometimes the dealership is the better deal. I think right now with the lack of new stuff to sell and the used market being tight they're making deals to keep the techs working.

So, I am thinking of buying this outfit for next year and putting it on a female mannequin to make an "escaped mental patient" zombie. The backstory would be that they either got attacked and bitten by a zombie in the hospital while still straitjacketed and escaped, or they escaped and got attacked...

I went to middle school with a girl named Gabe when my dad was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island. Gabe still lives clear across the country, but we reconnected in 2021 and chat fairly often. Gabe has loved my zombie truck from its inception, and said that she'd pose with the truck in her plague doctor mask if she didn't live on the other side of country. Below is a picture of Gabe in the aforementioned mask...
