    Truth right here.

After all those repairs, the truck could last 200k with no issues, or blow up after 20 miles.

There is no way to know if the truck is ok. You’ve spent weeks trying to reassure yourself that a high(er) mileage, older vehicle will be perfect after a major repair. You made the best decision you could.

Wait and see what Toyota comes back with. They will fix your truck, you will pay and take it back and then drive it. End of story.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Yes, but even that is a subjective statement.

It's kind of like a risk analysis, even statistical. The chances of your head being fubar are slim based on the information you provided but the chance is not zero.

    Do you follow?

If you drove your vehicle with the temp gauge pegged like it's going to come around again, then it is more likely that the head would be fubar. With that being said, there is still a chance that the head would be fine but it's less likely.

The opposite is then true since you were on the ball and able to minimize damage by being watchful and minding the condition of your motor that it is more likely that the head is fine. But, there is still a chance that the head could be fubar however minute it might be.

The needle never went fully into the red, but rather stopped just outside of the red zone. I have been driving the truck incredibly minimally, and had not had to add any coolant or oil in over a week.

And yes, I do follow; I guess what I'm worried about is how much I'm rolling the dice. A used 2TR-FE out of a totaled 2011 Taco with 54K miles is $7,700 installed. My dad was leaning towards putting an engine in the truck, but I don't trust a used engine engine that I don't know the history of that's more than halfway to 100K; Pete would have replaced certain seals and gaskets, but he wouldn't have opened up the engine and looked inside.

My engine has almost 160K on it, but the lower end is fine and I've always kept up with the maintenance; I am now a bit worried that the engine is going to totally shit the bed before 200K due to an unseen problem. Based on the track record of the 2TR-FE, I highly doubt that will happen, but I really need this truck to last another couple of years or at least until the market reaches sane levels again.

I’d say statistically, the odds are in favor that the engine will make it to 200k.
That’s is of course if the head job is done right, and you continue routine maintenance.

That’s being said, I will have to agree with the other.
Reality is, it may or may not?

I know that if it were my truck, I’d certainly not worry about it.
You have 2 options at this point. Fix it and drive it, or fix it and sell it.
I’d go with fix it and drive it. I think you’ll be better off monetarily in the long run.

I doubt you warped the head, it's not like you overheated the crap out of it.

Already told Charlie earlier, but found out more today why the spark plug got bent. Stuck a borescope down the spark plug hole and could see a piston ring all twisted up sitting on top of the piston, guessing the engine is toast.

I just have a huge emotional attachment to this truck, for numerous reasons. My parents bought it for me over a decade ago, and I've poured my heart and soul into it; I don't plan on daily driving it forever, but I was hoping that twenty years from now I could show it at the Carlisle Truck Nationals with a big sign on it saying that I'm the original owner. I've met a lot of men and women at car shows over the years who have held onto a vehicle for 20, 30, and even 40 years...

If I held on to my truck for 40 years from the day I bought it, I’d be 67.
Sometimes, I think there’s a good possibility my truck might “out live me”.

Once we pull the head off then more will be exposed, the Silverado belongs to my Ex-GF's Son. We begged and pleaded with him not to purchase it as it is obviously a basket case, he has had it for a year already and only been able to drive it maybe 5 miles total.

This Jeep was purchased brand new by the Upper Milford Fire Company in 1981, and is still in active use as a brush truck. A couple just happened to be walking by with their Dalmatian puppy...
