I called him and left him a message. Getting ahold of Gwyn and/or her family is like trying to heard cats, which is why 99% of the time I have to show Ho at their house unannounced...

The odds are most vehicles have had exposure to some kind of synthetic oil.
Mobil's no longer markets conventional oil, their cheapest oil, "Special", is a syn blend.

It has been fairly difficult to find a straight conventional oil for quite a while now, even the price leaders are semi-synthetic, partial synthetic or synthetic blend -- depending on the marketing buzz for the brand.

When I get a new oldie I just change the oil to one of my preferred products, use a quality filter and keep an eye on the level/color.

I just saw a car with one of these plates. No US spec plates to be seen. Charlie what do you think?

I've seen those; I think they're cool, but I already have a Meat Loaf plate and a US flag plate that I alternate between.

No, this wasn’t a fake “for show” plate. Err, if it was, they were driving around illegally. They had one of those on the back, spec’d out as their legal identification.

I've actually seen the real ones before; I think that if it's their actual number and the regular plate is still on the back, it's legal...

It’s illegal to run a custom replica of the legit number. Some folks do it in CA with the legacy plate. They change (have a custom plate made) the black and gold to black with white lettering with their tag #. That is not legal.

It's also illegal to put Christmas lights on your truck in every state, but right now I think police are very careful about choosing their battles; I've been doing the lights on and off on and off since 2011 or 2012, and every consecutive year since 2019, and I've never been pulled over. I can't tell you how many cops I drive past with truck literally lit up like a Christmas tree, and they don't care. One time I. New Hope last year, a cop pulled up alongside me going me going in the opposite direction and complimented me on the lights.

I personally believe that whether it's a Euro-style novelty license plate, or Christmas decorations, police just don't bother people over petty nonmoving violations if they are not egregiously breaking the law and putting other people in danger. This why, when I'm out for one of my "Christmas cruises", I don't consume even one beer before going for a drive in case I do get pulled over, and I go out of my way to avoid all traffic laws so as not to attract negative attention.

The Home Depot in Warrington is clean out of all battery-operated Christmas light sets, and the website said that Willow Grove is out of the specific sets that I want. The one Bustleton Avenue in Philly has plenty though!

Christmas lights are different than a clearly non spec license plate. Very different. Honestly I wouldn’t compare em. Using a fake plate is asking for trouble.

As if there weren't enough reasons to NOT live in Philly, my trip to the Home Depot for hard-to-find Christmas lights added yet another reason. This Home Depot is not even in the city, but practically in Bensalem, but because it has a Philadelphia address it has been forced to comply with Philly's bogus plastic bag ban...

    63A28858-96ED-47F1-9696-00FE48EA0498.jpg

I ended up driving through the touristy part of Philly back in November 2022 when I made a wrong turn, but I haven't been to Philly and actually gotten out of the truck since February 2022. This was when I drove into Richmond Hill to test drive those JDM Mitsubishi Delicas, and I witnessed what was probably an attempted drive-by shooting in front of the garage.

I haven't been into a retail establishment in Philly since well before the pandemic, and I didn't even know this was a thing until I asked an employee where the plastic bags were. This is exclusively a Philly thing, and Home Depot's located in outlying counties aren't required to comply.

At least they haven't gone the route of Wegman's which has not only stopped giving out plastic bags at all Pennsylvania locations, but charges like five cents per paper bag to jawbone customers into bringing their own bags. At this particular Home Depot, they were free!

Plastic bag bans/fees are not a novel concept at this point. Give it a few years and they’ll probably be standard across the country.

I would actually agree; I live in Pennsylvania, where only one plate is required on the rear of the vehicle. LEOs don't give a shit what you put on the front, even if it's another real license plate...

Would I like to live in a state that does not require a front plate? Yes!

But from a law enforcement standpoint, it is stupid. Reduces the ability to identify vehicles from the front vantage point.

Speaking of the devil with regards to law enforcement, I was vindicated by a perfectly placed "Karma Cop" on the drive home from the Home Depot in Philly this evening. It was starting to get dark and I'd turned the Christmas lights on; I was already back in Bucks County, though I forget exactly where.

I came to this 4-way intersection and the light turned yellow; I was going straight, and there was a Buick SUV behind me, riding my ass.

I made an executive decision to just keep going, because if I had stopped, the Buick probably would have rear-ended me. As close as the driver was to me, an impact at that speed might very well have totaled my truck. Hell, even if my truck wasn't totaled and even though it would have been 100% the Buick driver's fault, my truck has already been in the body shop twice in less than two years as a result of accidents that were not my fault (September 2020 and February 2022, respectively).

I didn't even tap the brakes, and the light turned red as soon as I entered the intersection. The Buick continued through the intersection too, meaning that they ran the red light, and continued to aggressively tailgate me.

I just ignored him and had more or less forgot about it, until not even a minute later, I saw red and blue flashing lights that were NOT on my truck; I realized it was a cop behind the Buick, and for not even a millisecond wondered if I'd finally run out of luck with the Christmas lights. Then I realized that the poor bastard behind me had just run a red light and was still tailgating me...

I was laughing hysterically as I watched the Buick pull to the side of the road for an inevitable dose of karma; I cannot remember the last time I was so happy to see a cop, nor can I remember the last time I felt that vindicated!
