Not necessarily fined, but I got a new plate for my truck in January 2021. The original plate from 2009 was starting to peel, and I got the Railroad Heritage specialty plates. I drove for a a year and a half until my parents suddenly got a notice in the mail (it's their account, but I bought my own EZ Pass) saying that I'd driven through a toll with a vehicle that wasn't registered to that transponder. They paid the ten bucks and we quickly changed the plate.

Did you try calling the EZ-pass people? I’d be willing to bet they would have dropped that charge.

 

I only paid for the EZ Pass, and tried to start my own account, but couldn't because my truck was already on my parents' account. The reason I bought my own is because we only had two EZ passes, and I was sick of borrowing them from my parents when I went on a roadtrip. We deemed it easier to put me on my parents' account then to start up a second one; I honestly do not know if they fought it, but now that I think about it, they probably did.

Fair enough. I think the whole EZ-pass pay for a transponder thing is a racket.

One good thing about Maryland is, with a Maryland address, EZ-pass transponder’s are free. No service charges like other states.

But me being difficult, I refuse to get one in this wretched state

On another note, I really don't like driving in Jersey. The state troopers are engaged in some sort of ticketing blitz; I haven't been pulled over since that time I was driving to my grandma's in Edison with Amanda, but I see numerous state troopers every time I drive into the fucking state, and I about freaked out the other day when one pulled out of a parking lot and appeared to be following me. I had Amanda in the truck with me, and they never got close to me, but I didn't rest easy until they made a right turn and disappeared.

I've never been stopped by state police in any state, and that was the first time I was stopped by police more than ten miles from my house in my entire life.

One of the most dickish things a cop ever did to me without actually pulling me over was in Doylestown back in 2016-2017; I was driving home late at night and had consumed one glass of wine at least an hour earlier. I was SOBER. This marked police Tahoe came out of nowhere and started aggressively riding my ass for probably a mile. If he had been in an unmarked Tahoe, I would have brake-checked him because as far as I'm concerned it would have just been some douchebag in a Tahoe. I showed my parents the dashcam footage and I even had it here on TW at one point. My parents didn't seem to think I'd done anything wrong, and my dad theorized that it was just a bored cop running license plates to see if he could find someone with a warrant. That's all well and good, but I say again that he's lucky he was in a marked vehicle, because I would have brake-checked him otherwise. That's how close he was to me.

This brings me to something that happened in 2018-2019; I had my friend Mike in the truck with me, and I was going home to get something before we went to a movie. This was before Mike had his driver's license, so I had picked him up. He lives like two miles from my house, and I'd forgotten something at my house if I remember correctly, so we drove back to my house. At the intersection of Street Road and Route 611/Easton Road, Street Road goes from two lanes to one after you cross 611. The right lane is intended for turning into the shopping center, but it is not illegal to use it to jump the line; I am guilty of doing this sometimes, but I've never done what the guy I'm about to tell you about did...

This 2011-2017ish Ford Taurus blew past all of the vehicles behind me, but I was already far enough ahead that he couldn't get in front of me without really gunning it. This didn't stop him. He had more under the hood than I do, and he was able to pass me and he cut me off at the last possible second; I laid on the horn, and this asshole slammed on his brakes, stopped in the middle of the road, and turned on police-style LED flashers that were integrated into the taillights. The car was dark-colored (black or blue; I forget), and had deep-tinted windows, but I knew it wasn't a cop car as it didn't have a municipal plate. This guy obviously wanted me to think he was a cop, but I wasn't falling for it; I turned on my high-beams and laid on the horn. Even if the guy was a cop, he wouldn't have had any jurisdiction to pull me over because he wasn't a Warrington cop! When he realized I wasn't going to put up with his shit, he sped off.

Could he have been a cop? Maybe...

I don't really give a shit, because if he was responding to an emergency, he would have had his lights and siren on and everybody would have gotten out of his way. This was just a dickhead with a vehicle that some people are stupid enough to believe is a cop car, and he was taking full advantage of it; I honestly think he was a volunteer firefighter or something, as they're allowed to have flahsing lights in their personal vehicles. I still don't give a shit though, because he was not responding to an emergency and clearly only wanted to bully his way past the vehicles before him.
