This reminds of this one time back in 2014 when we were still living at the townhouse in Furlong; I had forgotten to bring in the garbage can, and I was in my room watching TV when my mom made me go out and get it. I don't feel like typing out the whole story, so I tracked down my post from three years ago sharing this story and quoted it...

Also, I've addressed this topic in the MegaThread before, but here it goes again; I can experience sensory overload from the antics and habits of individuals with low-functioning autism and other intellectual disabilities. As I've gotten older, I've had a much harder time being in close proximity to people with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities due to their mannerisms. I will be nice to them because that's the person that I am, but all of my closest friends are either Aspergers or neurotypical. My friend Jeff, who has Aspergers, refers to people not on the spectrum as "normies". I have a much easier time relating to people with autism who are as high-functioning as I am, or people who neurotypical. @Stitchgirl90 has never been formally diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, but we believe that she is autistic to some degree. Sadly, like many people with autism who I am aware of, Amanda was mistakenly identified as being mentally retarded; I have been in a romantic relationship with Amanda for nearly a year now, and I can tell you that she is one of the smartest people I know! People with the intellectual disability that she was once thought to have do not train to become phlebotomists!

 

Yeah, I’d give the guy 2 options.

I can call the police, and they can give him the help he needs.
While I sit as a watchman for the supposed drug users to “protect him” until the police come.
And maybe try to find a way to convince him to get “real” help.

Or he could leave without me calling the police, and hope the drug users didn’t find him.
I don’t need any drug users finding him at my house. So GTFO……

New water heater was a lemon and started leaking...

 

My reply might have been "God loves you even though you're an asshole" or to roll up my sleeve and show her the tattoo near my right shoulder.

Loud music. Easy. Or they think guys like us with silver regular cabs are big ballers.

 

That’s about right for today.
Stuff being produced now is garbage.
They can’t even make a damn tire valve stem that doesn’t leak. And that’s a $3 dollar part. What makes you think they can build a water heater that doesn’t leak.

 

That sucks, quality control is really out the window the past few years.

 

I would agree, but the assumption is that it was damaged in shipping before the contractor got it. The water heater was obviously still under warranty, and labor was covered as well, so my parents didn't have to pay anything.

I hope that meetup isn't at Chubby's. Remember the story I told everybody about how I stopped at a cheesesteak place to use the bathroom while doing DoorDash back in 2019? They wouldn't let me use the bathroom unless I spent five bucks, I stormed out of the restaurant and slammed the door behind me (or at least tried to), and a guy who I'm assuming was the owner chased me halfway across the parking lot? Yeah, that's the place...

 

I don’t think they have chosen the place.
Just the parking lot. I bet they would not mind if you suggested Dalessandro’s.
If you know a better place, maybe suggest that. It’s just a meet up. Nothing is definitive yet.

I have not seen the woman since New Year's Day. When I said "less than wealthy" the other day, I was referring to the neighborhood, which is far from being Beverly Hills or the Hamptons, but is still not a cheap place to live. Most of the houses are modest 3-bedroom places built in the late 1950s through the early 1960s, and several have changed hands just in the last decade or two (Gwyn bought her house in 2003). However, a lot of the homeowners seem to have lived there for 34-40 years or longer (Amanda's landlady bought her place in 1988 or 1989). The neighborhood was middle class until probably a decade ago, and recently prices have really gone through the roof. One house, on a corner lot on Amanda and Gwyn's street, just went on the market for $525K. It is in excellent shape and move-in ready, but the kitchen needs to be updated. Anyway, Gwyn has been told by an unknown source that the woman is living by herself in a rented single-family home paid for by some program. The estimated mortgage payment for the $525K house is almost $3,400 a month; I reckon rent would be about the same or even higher. It would make sense if they put three or four people in one of these houses and they split the rent, but one person who clearly doesn't drive or have a job makes no sense.

If she is in fact living in a rented house then her caretaker or case manager, or whoever the hell is in charge, needs to supervise her better. I am leaning more towards the theory that she is squatting in a foreclosed/vacant house instead of believing what Gwyn has heard. However, if she is living in the neighborhood legally, I have no idea why in the hell she thinks it's okay neighbors for money and rides. This further points towards the likelihood that she is NOT supposed to be there.

@ABA180's theory that she is living in a tent in the woods somewhere in the neighborhood is also entirely possible. Regardless of where she is actually living my theory is that she panhandled some money down in Philly, paid cash to take the bus up here, and never went back to the city.

Either way, it's just shocking that three people including Gwyn have called the cops and nothing has been done yet. If she is living here legally, then her caretaker really needs to be made aware of this. If she is squatting in a vacant house, then I am absolutely shocked that whoever owns that house hasn't found out about it yet.

If she is in fact living in a tent in the woods, then something needs to be done for her own safety, because it has been cold lately! I would rather she end up in jail than the morgue.

If she has shelter, whether she is allowed to be there or no, I still worry for her safety. If she walks up to someone's kids and asks for money like she did that one time, they might not simply shoo her away and call the cops, and simply kick her ass or worse.

If she comes up to me again, whether I'm in my truck or not, I'm gonna tell it like it is. "I don't give money to people on the street, I don't give rides to strangers, if you bother me again I'm going to call the cops, and if come near my girlfriend we will have a problem." Let's not forget the fact that she clearly has bladder control issues; I'm not gonna embarrass her by drawing attention to that, but I'm not letting someone with piss-soaked pants in my truck!

It would take a lot of typing to explain.
But in short, "What help there is, isn't too good'

Where are the police going to take?
Lock her up in jail? Yeah, she wont stay long. The jails are over crowed.
A shelter? When she gets there, who is going to take care of her?
Who's to say she will stay? As of now, we in América still have the right to be free.
You can't make her stay without being adjudicated as mentally defective and unable to take care of herself.
And simply being homeless and begging for money does make you qualify for that.
Again, "help" isn't easy. And it isn't free either. Someone some where pays for it.
And those someone's can barely afford to pay for it now.

 

I just wish they hadn't left her in that neighborhood. I can avoid her because I don't live there and I'm in my truck 99% of the time when I see her, but I do know that she's really getting on the nerves of the people who do actually live there. Do you think she's more than likely a squatter, or she is actually living there?

 

I have no idea.
The only way to know is ask.
And asking means you’d have to get involved and be around her more.
Which doesn’t seem like something you want to do.

Neither, would I.

You only have 2 options.
Do something about it.
Or don’t do anything and ignore “the problem”.

I don’t know your situation. And I don’t know how bad the problem “is”.
So I can’t really give you any good information.

People are all different.
What I would do, and what you would do are two different things.

 

She hasn't been a "problem" to me, Amanda, or the people Amanda lives with. There is supposed to be a winter storm this weekend. I am legit worried about her safety. If I see her again, I will call the police. If enough people report on her, the cops probably will do something about her. It is not my place to get involved with her directly.
