I'd be willing to part my 2010 RIGHT NOW under the following conditions...

    • My current truck goes to someone who I know will take care of it.
    • New truck is a 4x4.
    • Parents co-sign and help somewhat with down payment because while I have good credit, I can't afford shit right now.

In a roundabout way that kinda reminds me of Shawn with that old Dakota. He had a laundry list a mile long of brand new parts that he put on and figured there couldn't possibly be anything else that could fail, but unfortunately something always did.

I'm not that good at it. I just have a lot of financial fences so what makes it to my general life/spending acct is my unaccounted for funds. I only get paid once a month so I've only got one check that my bank automatically processes some rules that I've set up for every month. Basically sets aside what I need for the house and utilities. My work already does my 401k and retirement accounts which are nice because those are pre-tax. And then I set aside some for a general savings account as a rainy day fund. Sort of like what I would use to deal with what you're having trouble with right now. If for some reason the cruiser decided to Chuck four tires and destroy a differential and I needed it right away the money would come out of that. It's important to understand what you want to do with your savings. Because just saving to save is typically losing money currently just due to devaluation. That's why it's typically money I still count on having to spend and when that account gets too much money into it I funnel it back into the 401K otherwise it's just losing its value sitting in savings

Yeah, but the Dakota had a rebuilt title and barely ran, plus it's a Dodge!

Well, I notice some McCoffee cups in the bed of your truck in one of your photos.
Maybe don’t eat out as much? If I buy a drink, it’s at the local gas station. I get the 44oz and pay $1.09
I don’t get ice, I get my moneys worth. I also use the same cup all week. And get a refill for .89c

If you pay for any game system service, toss that out as well.
    Streaming services, gone.
Walmart sells cheap clothes. I pay less than $13.00 for my jeans.
And I buy their name brand “George” shirts. Less than $20 for 6 shirts.

If it were me, and I am not you, I’d keep it.
I’d throw on a cheap set of brakes and pull the ABS fuse.
Keep a quart or two of oil handy and top the engine off as needed.
Then, I’d run that truck until it died. I use the hell out of it.
But, like I said, I’d be doing the work. So it would only cost me about $250.

Didn't he have two salvage title shitboxes? The Aztek and the Dakota?

A vehicle decision doesn't always have to be 100% what's best for the wallet. Sometimes it's just nice to upgrade and get something nicer and newer. Especially for an enthusiast like you.

That said, I am a bad example of spending way too much on a new truck every few years. I enjoy it, but also envy people who can hold onto something for many years.

I didn't have major mechanical issue until over 12 years and nearly 160K miles...
