In Ford nomenclature of the era the base model wagon was Ranch Wagon, the mid line model Country Sedan and top of the line model Country Squire. These names were used until the early 70's.

The guy I got the HVAC scrap from has a 2009 Volvo V50 with less than 115K miles that he and his wife might want to sell. The car runs great, the A/C blows cold, it is inspected through January 2025, and it really only needs a hood detailing. The big issue is that the car was totaled by the previous owner and has a rebuilt title. The guy's brother-in-law buys salvage vehicles and repairs them to sell for a profit. This car was not damaged particularly bad, and did not have deployed airbags or frame damage, but the cost of repairing the car simply exceeded the fair market value. The car has been inspected and deemed safe, which is why it has a rebuilt title and not a salvage title.

Amanda loves this car, and the price is just $600, which is well below her budget limit. The car is inspected and has new tires and brakes. The biggest concern that I have is whether or not there's something else wrong with it. Even for a vehicle with a rebuilt title, the price seems a bit low considering that the car is registered and basically ready to go. If my girlfriend passes, there's a good chance my mechanic (who specializes in Volvos) will like buy it for parts. What does everybody else think?

I don't see how you could possibly go wrong for $600, and that's coming from a guy who doesn't really like volvos after the 240 either.

Just want to make sure the transmission doesn't shit the bed immediately. This would only be to get her transportation until she can afford something nicer...

If it drives alright I wouldn't worry about the trans going out at 115k, that's hardly anything even for a Euro car.

It just smells like an ashtray because the current owner has a filthy habit. Luckily, it has leather seats...

rent an ozone generator from an equipment rental place and run it in there with the doors shut for like 4-5hrs, 90% of the smell will go away

    $600 seems like a deal.
If it last 3 weeks, it’s less than a rental car.

Take it Pete, have him inspect it.
    Buy it………

And Pete would probably buy it as a parts car for almost what Amanda paid for it, if something breaks...

I've had plenty of rebuilt title stuff. Only affects resale, and your buying price is $600 so no worries

How long have the previous owners had it?
Have they driven it much since they owned it?
    If so, it's probably ok.

It's $600. I think you might know a guy that can problem get that much in scrap alone......
I'm not one to typically gamble, but it sounds like the odds are in your favor.

I'm about to spend $2,500-$3,700 on a mower. (Not including the wood chipper attachment)
$600 for a car seems cheap to me.

The only problem I might see is insurance.
Some insurance companies will not allow full cover on a rebuilt title.
But again, $600. Just get collision and junk it if you crash it.

    I have a $500 deductible.
And my windshield was a just over $250.

I need to check into glass coverage.

Exactly, Pete can give it a good going over and then go from there. If it gets the basic thumbs up then yes, you can't buy anything for that

    Or someone else will.

When i bought my 88 Chevy Celebrity at an auction in 1998 I didn't know if it started or moved. I could visibly see it needed an exhaust and probably a battery. But the body was solid and inside was decent. Figured I'd go to 400-500 bidding as it was probably worth that if sold for parts.

Sale started at $200, I bid, nobody else. It needed 4 spark plugs and part of the throttle linkage as well to get it home, I just unhooked the cable from the transmission cable and shifted it myself to get home.

Wish I had more cars like that, I drove that car 4 years and 40K miles.
