I’ve got four bars, but despite this the connections is really slow and I can’t upload right now for some stupid reason. It is also pouring rain and we are stuck under the tent!

It has been a great weekend and a shitty weekend at the same time. It rained for a good chunk of the show and we didn’t get to see all we wanted…

    :annoyed:

Then, my camera got some water in while I was making a mad dash back to the truck and suddenly quit working after the rain stopped while I was taking pictures of a Rivian; I got this weird message that the battery wasn’t compatible with the camera, and determined that my expansion back was bad (cheaper than a whole camera). Then, my SD card decided to glitch and lock me out; I can’t access the pictures without formatting the memory card, which in turn would delete all the pictures. I can probably get the pictures back, but it will probably cost about $100.

I made a mad dash to Walmart for a replacement SD card so I could take more pictures.

Before heading back to the hotel for the night, Amanda and I went to the Sheetz on Harrisburg Pike that’s on the right when you first come into Carlisle; Amanda needed to withdraw cash from the ATM to buy her bike. She was tired, so I went to withdraw the money. There are some parking spots directly outside the door, and then you walked across the parking lot to get to the other spots. This where I parked the truck. Literally just as I started crossing the street, this 1996ish Ford F250 diesel comes into the parking lot going way too fast and almost hits me; I did not exchange words with the driver or even give him the finger. I just gave him a dirty look as I continued across the street; I got into my truck, which was backed into the spot, and the F250 backed into the spot to my right. I thought nothing of this until I started pulling out of the parking space, and the driver of the F250 started nothing for me to roll my window down.

The driver was a long-haired kid, probably in the range of 19 to 22 years of age; I backed up and had Amanda roll down her window. The guy wasn’t an asshole, but he wanted to know why I had given him a dirty look; I couldn’t comprehend what he wanted me to say. At best, the blame was 50/50, and at worst it was totally his fault.

I told him, and I quote, something along the lines of “You came into the parking pretty fast, and you freaked me out a bit. I didn’t cuss at you or flip you off; I merely looked at you.”

After a little bit of this back and forth, I got frustrated and drove off…

A lot of crazy shit went down that didn’t involve me. First on the list was the guy in the 2008-2010 Ford F350 PowerStroke who decided to light up his tires in full of view of everyone, including two security guards!

    :burnrubber:

    o_O:facepalm:

Carlisle Events has really cracked down on shit like burnouts. One security guard was at the top of the hill, one was at the bottom of the hill, and both were in golf carts. They both intercepted the driver, cutting him off, and ultimately kicking him off the grounds for the rest of the day.

Number two was a dumb kid on a bicycle. This red Mazda pickup stopped for a stop sign at one of the many intersections on the fairgrounds. The kid on the bike, smart enough to be wearing a helmet but dumb in just about every other respect, blew past the Mazda on the left. The kid almost nailed by the Mazda, and a security guard who witnessed the whole thing started screaming at the kid. All he could say to the security guard was “sorry”, and he just kept riding. The security guard flipped out, threatening to confiscate the kids bike and not give it back if he caught him riding in that area again…

I did not witness the third incident, but apparently a guy in a lowered blue Chevy S-0 got butthurt when he missed the signup for the low truck limbo”. From what I heard, he jumped the cue and started driving like a maniac, almost hitting a security guard in the process. His friends also apparently started causing trouble. By the time I showed up, I saw a bunch of cop cars and LEOs shooting the shit with showgoers. I have no idea if anybody got arrested, but apparently somebody counted 11 police vehicles, and I noted at least two different jurisdictions in the convoy; I believe that the Carlisle Fairgrounds occupy land in Carlisle Borough and one other township, so both departments are given jurisdiction, and I also saw a state trooper.

I do believe that most or all of the trespassers were kicked off the fairgrounds, but again I do not if any arrests were made; Amanda and I were getting ready to leave when at least half a dozen cop cars came back, so I don’t know what that was about…

    PEOPLE ARE REALLY BECOMING ASSHOLES!

I was taking pictures of a mint 1986 Chevy C30 dually, and a guy in a custom diesel Chevy Silverado almost backed right into me (possibly over me). I was standing on the grass, nowhere near the road, when I heard someone repeatedly yell “KYLE!”

I looked over and this Silverado was probably less than a foot from me. There were at least three guys in the bed and they had been yelling at the driver, Kyle, to stop; Kyle had just blindly started backing up. The guys in the bed apologized, I commented on the fact that the truck had a backup camera, and was promptly told by one of the guys in the bed that it didn’t work… o_O

Kyle, obviously embarrassed, took off like a bat out of hell…

You'd think yelling "STOP" would be better than yelling "Kyle".

What do y'all think of the situation with the kid in the Ford? I feel like this is becoming the norm with people born after Y2K. They take mundane mannerisms as an insult and try to start shit...

    I gotta be honest man.
I don’t think much of it.
    And you shouldn’t either.

That was the past. If anything, I’d recommend not rolling down the window and just leaving next time.
Life’s to short to argue with an idiot.

I feel like I've gotten sick with more non-COVID illnesses since the pandemic started, than in the ten years prior to COVID; I got sick for sure, but it mostly amounted to allergies and colds, and it was not debilitating in the slightest. I showed up for work at Puck once with what I thought was a cold, and my boss Sam made me go home because I started coughing excessively. That was the only time that I ever missed a day of work at Puck due to being sick.

In May 2021, I literally came down with something while DoorDashing; I logged off and drove home, by which time I was progressively worse. I had already gotten the COVID vaccine at this point, but I was still worried not only that I had COVID, but that I was going to die; I tested negative for COVID but I had a fever of 103 or 104! I was out of commission for a day or two, but with medication and rest, I got rid of it.

I did not test positive for COVID for the first time until right after Thanksgiving in 2023; I believe that I may had it and not known it prior to this, but I will never know. My mom had it twice, my dad had it three times, and Amanda also had it three times. All of the times Amanda had it were prior to us dating.

I believe that this is the third or fourth time I have gotten legitimately sick since March 2020. Yes, Amanda and I are sick. We both tested negative for COVID a week ago, and my dad had just tested negative for COVID after a getting it a third time. My mom came down with something that ended up not being COVID, but we think that she gave it to me and Amanda.

Amanda and I were intermittently feeling shitty for the week leading up to the Carlisle Truck Nationals, and we had no idea what it was, but we were both 99% it wasn't COVID. We were feeling more or less fine on Friday, but this trip took a lot out of us. We were both generally fine during the day, but coughing and sniffling excessively at night. We both took TheraFlu in the morning and evening and kept ourselves hydrated.

We also believe it is possible that one of us caught something at work, and one of us gave it to the other; Amanda was sick before me, and my mom got sick around the time Amanda got sick, so we don't know where whatever we got originated...

    :annoyed:

Our appetites never diminished, and aside from my voice becoming hoarse, there were no noticeable symptoms. We plan on going to work tomorrow.

I am doing my best not to look in the past, but these little encounters with random shitheads are becoming more and mroe prevalent; I think that it has to do with a number of things...

    • Social media
    • The COVID pandemic
    • Kids who were deprived of proper socialization during the lockdowns and restrictions during the pandemic, and have now come of age
    • Parents who don't raise their kids properly

I feel like strangers are going out of their way to make mountains out of molehills; I don't know if it's me or if other people have similar issues, but while I have been relatively extroverted over the last 15 to 20 years, these encounters make me want to keep to myself. Even when I keep to myself, it generally doesn't help, because there are people like the moron in the Ford truck! @TnShooter was right, in that I should have listened to my better judgement and just driven off without talking to the guy...

    I can 100% say, I just don’t care.
I wouldn’t have cared if the guy “almost” hit me.

Unless something “literally” cost me money, or injures me physically. IDGAF.

That said, I can’t really recommend others operate this way.
I’m just in one of those points in life, where I don’t have time to care.
Hopefully, one day soon, I will have time to “worry about the small stuff”.

I think the problem is, everyone thinks they have to be heard.
No, no you don’t. Keeping your mouth shut is actually is an option.

I was raised at the end of an era where someone would knock you on your ass and tell you STFU.
I haven’t forgotten the few times I had my ass kicked. And some of them I rightfully needed.
Lessons learned the hard way, are not often forgotten.
