After what happened to Otto Warmbier, I was so mad I wanted to run over Kim Jong Un with my Tacoma!

    That got me to thinking...

Would he significantly damage my truck, explode from all the cheese and cognac he consumes, or both?!?!

I think a Tundy would do the job better!

He's not so much anti-xmas as he is anti-religion. He wants all of his people to worship his fat ass like he's a God...

At this point, my phone was at like 5% battery life, so I shut it off and started using the Nikon...

I have a hubcap from the car that my mom and her sisters shared when they were teenagers, a 1961 Studebaker Lark! No, you can't drill a hole in it!

Please read this and give me your opinions in posts...

So, I saw a 3rd Gen DCSB Limited and a 1996-1998ish AC TRD PreRunner parked next to each other on the street caddy-corner to my aunt and uncle's house when my cousin and I came back from Nauticus. Normally, I prefer to use my iPhone in these situations because it does not attract potentially unwanted attention like my Nikon D5300. Unfortunately, my phone was dead, so I used the Nikon. I took pictures of the two Tacos from various angles, amounting to maybe three photos, and out of the corner of my eye I noticed a bald guy opening the window of his house. The Tacomas were parked right outside this guy's house, so I knew immediately that at least one of them must be his, and thus knew exactly why he coming to his window with a less-than-amused look on his face. Turns out he was British (as I learned from his accent; a British guy with a Tacoma; Awesome!). Immediately, I politely but hurriedly explain to him the following:

    1. I love Tacomas and I thought that a 1st gen and a 3rd gen together made for a cool shot.
    2. I own a Tacoma myself.
    3. My aunt and uncle live in the house next door (I also gave the guy my aunt and uncle's name so he knew I wasn't BSing him).

I then told him that I was up to "nothing nefarious," and he stated that he thought it was a bit weird that I was taking pictures of his truck. However, he did take my word for it, shut the window, and disappeared back inside the house.

I'd say I handled the situation quite well (I basically smooth-talked my way out of a potential confrontation with my aunt and uncle's neighbor), but my aunt was less than thrilled that I'd had such an encounter with her neighbor, and my parents were downright pissed. My parents would estimate that I've had "at least 20" confrontations over the years (Dating back to 2012), all as a direct result of someone catching me taking pictures of their truck. They are understandably fed up and would prefer that I just stop taking pictures outside of shows and special events altogether. I have mostly done this, but I still see a really cool vehicle from time to time that is just begging to be photographed. I've started using my iPhone instead of my Nikon to take pictures outside of shows because it is far less conspicuous.

So, the actual incident was no big deal, and really more of a non-incident. I handled it well and diffused it before any potential hostility could arise. The photos of these two Tacos will be posted on TW later tonight!

The problem is that I love taking pictures of trucks, like a lot. I consider to be an innocent hobby and nothing more. Due to the occasional hostile encounter, and the fact that I've photographed pretty much every worthwhile Chevy truck in Doylestown (most with permission of the owners), I've pretty much stopped taking pictures of trucks outside of shows. This particular incident was an anomaly, as I just had to have that shot.

My parents are worried that some crazy person is going to beat me up or shoot me, for taking pictures of their vehicle. My dad really wants to go to Europe, but is hesitant to bring me because he's worried that I will get into an altercation about taking pictures, with somebody who speaks little or no English...

I'm trying to convince my dad that a trip to Europe would be one of those rare times that taking pictures of trucks isn't something I particularly want to do. My dad also states that this is just an example of me blowing him off and doing whatever I want to do. This is kind of true, but how I behave in America is way different than how I'd behave in another country. If I went to any foreign country, my goal would be to set an example for other Americans and prove that America is not the arrogant country that so many people from foreign countries think it is!

I would cool it with the Nikon photos for a bit, to help the parental folks catch a break. Just use the phone for a while. Take a quick snap and move along. This way your dad gives you some trust, and y’all can go on a kick ass trip to Europe. No need to sweat the small stuff right now Charlie, there will be other opportunities in the future for truck pics. Understandably so, this day and age people get easily freaked out when someone is taking pics of them or their belongings. So give it a rest for a bit, and maybe get good with the iPhone for a while.

No offense but this isn’t generally socially acceptable behavior. It will almost always come across as either suspicious or rude. If I were you I’d stop completely with full on photographing other people’s vehicles. Maybe snap a quick pic with your phone if you really want to, but there’s too many pics of all of these trucks on the internet to be getting into confrontations over.
