Even if I had that kind of money, it’s one of the worst lots in the neighborhood. My parents only bought it back in 1990 because they got a $20K discount. It would also require more than ten grand right off the bat because it only has one central A/C unit, and it’s over 3,000 square feet. One added bonus is that the neighborhood doesn’t have an HOA, but paying almost $800K for a house that my parents paid less than $250K for is a very tough pill to swallow!

I had the same one, except I don't recall if mine had the hole in the kneecap area or not. Regardless, it definitely helped me.

At almost 220K miles, my truck has finally developed an oil leak! It has been burning oil for years (recently a little over a quart between oil change), but recently I realized I'd put more than two quarts in it in less than 5,000 miles. Yesterday, I brought the truck in for an oil change and to have the BackRack installed. My mechanic discovered that the oil filter gasket was bad, but it is slow enough that I am going to make an attempt at holding off until the next oil change. Strangely enough, it has not left any oil stains in the driveway that I am aware of!

My dad's 1990 Mazda B2600i, which he bought used in September or October of 1998, had over 90K miles when he bought it and leaked oil practically from day one. We lived in Virginia Beach and our house has a concrete driveway, which makes oil stains more visible!

    :annoyed:

Not including my Tacoma, my parents have only had two vehicles I'm aware of that they put more than 100K miles on. Those vehicles were 1996 Nissan Pathfinder SE (113K miles when sold) and a 2004 Honda Odyssey EX (132K miles when sold). The Pathfinder developed an oil leak at some point in the range of 2004-2007, but I remember it being a very easy fix. No other vehicles we had leaked oil as bad as the Mazda did. My dad's 2013 Honda Pilot missed the 100K mark by less than a thousand miles, since it had 99K on the clock when he traded it for a 2018 Yukon in November 2018. Amanda's PT Cruiser is rolling up on 97K miles, and based on the oil level when we bought the car, it seems to burn roughly a quart between oil changes.

One of my favorite features of my BMW is that it has a full engine and transmission belly pan, I know it leaks. But I don't have to see evidence that it leaks haha

My bank is less than a mile from Emily's condo, so just for grins I drove over there just to make sure everything was okay, but also to see if being there stressed me out (this has been more of an issue for Amanda than for me). The place is locked up tight and obviously nobody is living there, but I found a piece of mail tucked into the storm door that was addressed to Emily; Emily's dad called the post office and stopped her mail, but my mom's theory is that a neighbor who was unaware of the situation got the mail by mistake and left it at Emily's condo without a second thought. I was on the phone with Amanda when I found it, and when I described the letter to Amanda, she told me that Emily's social security number was in there; I texted Emily's dad and told him and the letter is now safe and sound at my house until I can give it to him.

We were interested in Emily's a car, a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport with less than 100K miles; Emily died barely over a week after we got the Chrysler, but we were willing to sell the Chrysler and buy the Mitsubishi if the price was right. Emily's dad bought her the Mitsubishi and paid cash, so there are not loans or liens and he has the title, but the title is in Emily's name.

I have only owned two vehicles in my life, and I still own both of them (Amanda's name is first on the Chrysler's title, but my name is on the title too because it's on my insurance, and the car automatically becomes mine if Amanda dies). As such, I have absolutely no firsthand experience in getting a vehicle from someone who has died.

My old neighbor's parents lived with them in an apartment in the basement. Her dad died from complications relating to COPD in the summer of 2020. The mom still had a valid license but hadn't driven in years, and they had a 2005 Chrysler 300 with only 83K miles that was taking up space in the driveway. The title was solely in the name of the deceased. A friend of mine buys vehicles cheap and flips them for a profit. He just happened to text me one day, telling me that he was bored and had cash, which translates to "Do you know anybody trying to sell a car?"

The family wanted the car gone, and a deal was quickly struck for $2,500. The parents smoked in the car, but it had leather seats and my friend said it would be easy to get the smell out for this reason. My friend has a friend who I believe is a small-time dealer and a licensed notary public. They drove up to my neighborhood in my friend's truck, with a dealer plate. The title was put on the truck of the Chrysler, and my neighbor literally forged his late father-in-law's signature on the title in the presence of his family and the guy who happened to be a notary. They slapped the dealer plate on the Chrysler, my friend gave me $100 as a finder's fee, and they drove off. My friend cleaned up the car really nice, and had it listed for $5,000; I have no idea if that's what he actually sold it for, nor am I sure the circumstances under which the title was signed were legal.

When Amanda's birth mother died in February, they didn't issue the final death certificate until May. In order to bury her ashes at the veterans' cemetery, they had to have a death certificate, so a temporary one was issued; Emily wasn't a veteran, and her ashes are going to be spread in various places instead of being interred, so there isn't a sense of urgency in getting a death certificate. We asked Emily's dad about the car at the memorial service three weeks ago, and were told that he needed the death certificate and some other paperwork to get the title transferred into his name or a future owner's name; I don't know why a temporary death certificate wouldn't suffice, but we've already poured money into the PT Cruiser, and I am having second thoughts about the Outlander because Emily was not known to take good care of her vehicles.

Anyway, in the meantime, the Outlander is being kept in the reserved spot at the condo. It is still registered and insured, and the inspection is good through December of this year, so Emily's dad is driving it whenever he can to keep it from deteriorating. If I absolutely had to get a Mitsubishi, the Outlander is probably the only vehicle currently made by them that I would consider for myself or Amanda. Emily's has less than 100K miles (I forget exactly how many), her dad recently paid a small fortune for some new parts (suspension, brakes, etc), it has a clean title (though there is one accident on the Carfax from before Emily owned it), and everything including the A/C works. If the stars had aligned and Emily's dad was willing to part with the Outlander for three grand or less, we probably would have bought it instead of the PT Cruiser; KBB Value on the Outlander is like six grand or so, which is proof that Mitsubishis do not hold their value like Toyotas. I've really wanted to get something with 4WD for a couple years now; my Taco is RWD, and the PT Cruiser is FWD. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is available with 4WD, but Emily's is FWD, and a fairly basic one at that. If Emily's dad offers us the Outlander in a couple months for like $2,500 or so, then we will sell the Chrysler and buy it!

The only sign that my truck is leaking oil, as stated above, is that I've had to add more between oil changes than I usually do. The filter gasket leak was either nonexistent or small enough to go unnoticed at 215K miles, because my mechanic didn't report finding anything. My mechanic and his employees are quite good at spotting leaks, which is how they discovered the leaky cam cover gasket a few years ago!
