Can I have a complete list of mods so I can include all of them in the New Year's post?

Please give me your opinion on this...

I am beyond fed up with the Wawa on Main Street in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

In the past, once employees recognized me as a regular customer and knew I was way over 18, they stopped carding me when I went there to purchase cigarettes for coworkers.

Now, a whole batch of new employees seem to have start working there, and they seem determined to exercise their power over customers.

There's this one 20-something girl who works the counter regularly, and I'm 99% sure she has Aspergers or another high-functioning form of ASD. Why do I think this?

Those of us with Aspergers tend to take things way too literally. A perfect example would be my friend Doug and the use of high-beams when driving...

This was back in 2011-2012, right after I got my license.

Whenever Doug and I went somewhere and took separate vehicles, and it happened to be dark out, I noticed that he kept his brights on a lot of the time. In addition to annoying the shit out of me, this damn near blinded me! I was always in my Tacoma, and he would either be in his mom's 2007 Camry Hybrid or the 2003 Highlander Limited his dad had just given him...

One time, I couldn't take it anymore! We happened to be driving past my old neighborhood (I still lived there at the time), and I flipped on my blinker and pulled over. Doug followed me. I got out of the truck and demanded to know, rather rudely, "Why the hell he always his high-beams on when he was behind me?!?!" I also told him that one was not supposed to have their high-beams on when there was another vehicle in front of them!

Doug told me that when he'd first gotten his learner's permit, he'd been told (presumably by his parents) that he was supposed to keep his high-beams on at night when nobody is coming in the opposite direction. I'm guessing Doug missed the part where mom and dad told him the high-beams were not to be used when there was another motorist in front of him...

Needless to say, Doug has never used his high-beams when there was another vehicle in front of him, since I chewed him out that night...

2 different stories going on here. Not sure which one you want a comment on. But sounds like this new girl is merely doing her job. No reason to be annoyed by that.

So, going back to this girl at Wawa, I'm sure she received some sort of training when she first got the job. To be fair, she is very fair and provides courteous customer service.

One of the store's understandable policies is to card everyone who appears to be under 30 years of age when they purchase age-restricted stuff. Somewhere along the line, I think this girl misinterpreted the policy as meaning "Ask to see the ID of everyone who appears to be younger than 30, every time, even if they are regular customers and you have seen their driver's license or ID card so many times that there is absolutely no way you wouldn't know they are at least 18 years of age"! I would like to point out that other employees who I've done business with never card me after a few transactions. It's just this one girl! What's even weirder is that this girl has been here a while, and I am 99% sure she's sold me cigarettes without carding me. It seems like this particular Wawa has suddenly decided to follow the letter of the law with regards to asking customers for ID, no matter how much it pisses them off...

Just last night, I went to Wawa on a smoke run for my boss. She smokes Marlboro Menthol Lights, and she asked me to pick up two packs. The guy behind the counter was a guy I'm pretty sure I've never seen before, and since he didn't know me, he carded me. No big deal...

Problem is that I the guy was rushing customers through the checkout and gave me two packs of Marlboro Menthol Ultras. I don't smoke, so I don't know one variet of Marlboro Menthol Whatevers from another. Ever since this one time in April 2015 when I mistakenly bought Marlboro Menthols instead of Marlboro Menthol Lights when my boss tore me a new one, I have trained myself to ask for Marlboro Menthol Lights every time my boss sends me on a smoke run. As a result, my boss knows now that when I come back with the wrong cigarettes, it is not my fault!

So, my boss sent me back to Wawa to exchange the cigarettes. The new guy from earlier was no longer at the register, and it was the young lady I believe has some form of autism. I explained the situation, and since the cigarettes hadn't been opened, she simply exchanged them with no questions asked. She did not ask to see my ID. She had been at the other register during my first transaction, seen me purchase the smokes, and rightfully assumed I was of age.

A couple hours later, one of the bouncers came in as extra help. This bouncer also smokes, and I regularly make smoke and coffee runs for him when he's busy doing his job. In addition to being clocked in when I do this, this bouncer lets me keep any leftover change. However, this bouncer smokes USA Reds. I walked into Wawa, and this same girl was still at the counter. Even though I'd just been in there that same night, she asked for my ID. I would have made things difficult for anybody else, but I just showed her my license and left without incident...

@Plain Jane Taco , the story about my friend Doug was just an example of how people with Asperger's and other forms of Autism Spectrum Disorder are notorious for either taking things too literally, misinterpreting things, or both. The story I wanted feedback on was this obnoxiously by-the-books Wawa...

Many of the employees at this Wawa have figured out at that I'm not a smoker and am obviously buying the cigarettes for someone else. Some of the employees know this and could care less, but a lot of the more relaxed employees don't seem to work there anymore. There was this one girl named Kellie I went to high school with who was a year younger than me, and as a result she obviously knew I was of age. As a result, she never carded me, ever. She also inquired as to why I'd suddenly taken up smoking cigarettes when I was known in high school for having a deep hatred of them. I told her the cigarettes were for my boss and other various coworkers, all of whom were in their 20s, and she was fine with it.

I learned my lesson back in 2012-2014 (forget exactly when) when I became very self-conscious about people thinking I was a smoker, and stupidly said that one night after being asked if I wanted matches that the smokes were not for me, but for the 40-year old bartender at my favorite hangout. The cashier, a middle-aged woman, refused to sell them to me. I protested and she got her manager, who stood behind the employee's decision not to sell me the cigarettes. I gave them a few choice words, stormed out of the store, and drove up the street to the CVS (this was when CVS still sold cigarettes). Guess what? The cashier at CVS didn't even card me! She just handed me the pack of Merits, I gave her the cash, and I was gone!

After that, I had no problems at Wawa for the longest time...

A couple employees who know that I am not buying cigarettes for myself really hate that I am doing this and have gone out of their way to get me to slip up and admit this so they can refuse to sell them to me...

As I said in the previous post, I've unintentionally given some clues to the employees of the Doylestown Wawa that make it incredibly obvious that the cigarettes I am buying are not for me:

    1. A veteran smoker knows exactly what he or she wants, and would probably know that he or she had gotten the wrong cigarettes before she left the store. I've goten the wrong cigarettes due to inattentive employees and pretty much blow my cover when I show 10-20 minutes later to exchange them.
    2. I've purchased 3 or 4 different brands of cigarettes in one transaction.
    3. I've purchased one or two brands of cigarettes at this Wawa, and then had to go back later for yet another pack of a different brand when another coworker sends me on another smoke run.
    4. At this point, making multi-brand cigarette purchases at this Wawa has become so tense, and I'm so afraid of being questioned, that employees can probably see it in my facial expressions and body language.

I honestly do no see what the problem is here. I am not buying tobacco for minors. Everyone I buy cigarettes for is 25 years of age or older. This is none of the Wawa's business, but it's true! I typically pay in cash, but it's also common for my boss to give me her credit card. Some of my workers give me their credit cards or debit cards instead of cash, and in the case of debit cards, they trust me enough to give me their PIN. My money is green, and no card I've used at that Wawa has ever been declined!

My coworker, a bartender named Anya, agrees with me fully!

This also happened at Wawa last night, the first time I went. I purchased a hoagie, printed the receipt, and paid for it. I then stuffed the ticket somewhere (pocket, wallet, etc; Still haven't found it), and waited for my order. One of the women making the sandwiches called out my number, 236. I said "that's me," and expected to just grab my stuff and go. The woman is like "Can I see your ticket?"

I'm like "I don't have the damn ticket. I was just over there. I paid for it!" I try to find the ticket, but can't. I also tell her I've been coming to this Wawa for years and have never had to show the ticket, and then make a wise-ass remark in the form of "Have you guys been having a rash of people shoplifting sandwiches or something?"

I was absolutely livid. So, I couldn't find the ticket, and the sandwich lady asked the cashier (same woman who cards me every time I buy cigarettes and who I believe has some for of autism) to check the computer and see if number 236 had been paid for, even though the guy who rang up my purchase was right there. WTF?

The cashier confirmed that it had indeed been paid for, and I got my stuff. This will be the last time I purchase a hoagie from this Wawa, and quite frankly I hope all of my coworkers who smoke decide to quit, because this Wawa is the most convenient place in town to buy cigarettes.

I talked with Anya and Soundman Mike, and they both agree with me. Mike says he gave up on this particular Wawa about a year and a half ago because they stopped selling something he liked (I forget what).

This Wawa dates back to about 1975, and the whole place is outdated, inside and out. This Wawa was designed for a Doylestown of a different era, a Doylestown that was at the time nothing but a hole-in-the-wall. Just in the last 10 years, Doylestown has experienced rapid growth, nevermind what it has seen since is 1975! The parking lot is too damn small, and one adjacent business owner has put up specific signs that say "No Wawa Parking."

Soundman Mike thinks the place should just be torn down and replaced. Wawa wants to build a bigger store with a gas station just up the street, but people are opposing it left and right. They think it will have a negative affect on the charm of Doylestown, and make the traffic problem even worse!

    Edit:

So let’s talk about the cigs situation. So going to buy smokes for the employees has essentially became part of your job. You make it easier for the bar to run smoother with you being available to do the quick Wawa smokes run. Sure does it seem a bit weird to you, it probably isn’t to the people behind the counter. They see hundreds of people a day, and most likely don’t care why you are buying different brands of cigs. They also don’t care what you are doing with them. All they care about is you being of legal age to purchase and able to pay. As far as being carded, sure you were there a while before but that one lady probably saw 20 people after you and doesn’t recognize you or anyone else. So I would just take the getting carded thing in stride, show the ID, pay and move along. Just accept this is a role for you in your job and do it to the best of your ability. Try to be less tense going into the store so you can get in and get out with quickness. Try writing down the orders, take pics on your phone with peoples name written down next to the pack of smokes so when you get in the truck to leave you can make sure you got the right ones so you don’t have to go back. It’s all about being great at your job and your boss will reward you.

As far as hoagie situation goes, they are just verifying you were snagging the wrong order. I know it was frustrating at the time, but don’t let that stop ya from getting a hoagie. Just try to hang on to the ticket. Just because the store is a run down pos don’t mean it’s bad.

One thing you gotta remember Charlie, the jobs these people hold might be the biggest role they have ever had and might be super nervous. Also, you don’t know how bad of a day they are having, how bad their life is or what might be on their mind when they are giving you customer service. Just do your best to put forth a positive side of yourself, recognize they are caught up in their life with things and understand they are human too. So give this a try and I’m sure it will help. Just take a deep breath and remember to try positivity next time things get a little cockeyed when dealing with them. You never know how rude people have been to them before you, and your positivity with a smile might be the best thing they see all day.

I understand all that. Great advice!

The one thing is that this girl who might have autism is very kind and respectful. She just asks to see my license every time we do business. It's getting old. It will continue to get old...

What do I do about the people who have such a problem with me buying smokes for half the bar staff?

Well by federal law, she has to card you. She is just doing her job. So just show ID, pay, grab smokes and move along.

As far as the people having an issue, you just need to tell them it’s a part of your job. They need not to be concerned with what you are tasked with. This is your job, so you perform it and they need to be worried about making sure theirs is done not yours.

    FUCKING EXACTLY!

Though I have a feeling they might not react very kindly if I say that...

I'm thinking of making smoke runs at the 7-11 on the other side of town instead of this Wawa, because it really fucking sucks!

Remember, you gotta do your job efficiently, so if that means going to Wawa because it’s quicker and closer, then I would do that. Because if the smokes are wrong, you’ve got a longer turn around time now.
