Were you referring to my present Michelin tires, or the Toyo tires they replaced last October? If the Michelins are summer tires, they certainly do not handle like it...

FUN FACT: Or maybe a not-so-fun fact...

This house was built in the early 1990s and has electric heat. Not a heat pump as it doesn't have central air, but electric baseboard heat. The water heater and range/oven are also electric. A recent electric bill this winter came in at about $700!

This is not a large home by any stretch of the imagination. It is 1,056 square feet, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and no basement! One could almost purchase a UCS Millennium Falcon for what it costs to keep the pipes from bursting in the winter!

 

Grammy's 2-story A-frame home up in Maine is the same way. It is roughly 1,400 square feet, with 4 bedrooms (two bedrooms are actually smaller than my parents' walk-in closets, and are really more of bunkrooms for kids), 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, and a finished basement. The A-frame has electric baseboard heat and an electric water heater. One could install an oil or propane boiler, but not without sacrificing a substantial amount of storage space...

Ouch. That is a crazy. I couldn’t imagine having a power bill like that.

 

My family rented twos houses on Kauai in July 2009, for my cousin's wedding. They not only did not have central A/C (some of the bedrooms had window A/C units), but also did not have any kind of heat!

Does your place in Honolulu have any kind of A/C or heat? I could see A/C being used in Hawaii, but I'd imagine heat isn't really needed!

Leaving my neighborhood for work, the day after the so-called "Bomb Cyclone" storm...




I slid quite a bit when making this left turn...

 

Dang, that's almost the same as my monthly mortgage payment.

In college, some of my friends were renting a similar house - all electric with electric baseboard heat. There were a couple winter months where their electric bill was more than rent. They at least had a basement, though.

 

Mortgages are cheap in Missouri!

 

Generally. I also bought an old house outside of city limits.
