Well like I said, if and when it presents itself, don’t let your pride or ego stand in your way of your pops giving or helping you obtain something nice. I wish my dad were still alive to do the same. You will always remember events like this for the rest of your life, I guarantee it.

My dad says I'm not getting a new truck anytime soon though. I'd say it's 60/40 I get a new truck in the next year.

I just don't want an SR because it'll be like Groundhog Day, which will mean no intermittent wipers and a shit sound system.

Am I spoiled for not wanting another base model?

My dad may have bought me Emma, but I paid for her killer stereo with my own money!

Absolutely not. You know what you want, and if your pops is willing to go with it, then it’s all good. Maybe this is a good opportunity to show your dad he could front the money for the SR price and you will pay for the upgrade to SR5.

Very nice truck. Would take in a heart beat. I like your current truck but 4x4 is nice and I know you would use it in the snow.

From your previous posts, I know you have a soft spot for a manual transmission. How do you feel about the manual transmission with the 3.5l? Maybe go with a base model 4x4 access cab manual transmission AND add your wipers, sound system, wheels, etc. that you already have. Your current truck would sell in a heartbeat.

Don't feel bad that your Dad worked hard his whole life to provide nice things for his kids. That was probably his intention of working hard. I'm sure you want to do nice things for your family/friends.

You seem like a good guy, and your dad knows that.

Big on the manual transmission, not so much on the 3.5L...

But there are more important things than a new Tacoma right now...

Especially when the one I've got is barely broken in...

Of course, we agree on the manual transmission.

I haven't done enough research on the 3.5l. I thought the problems were mainly due to the transmission. Does the motor have problems as well?

Coming from a guy who enjoys his 4.0l...idk what idk

The biggest reason my dad wants me to have a new one is because of TSS, specifically the automatic braking.

Ah ok then. I get the TSS. As much as I dislike nanny systems on my truck, the TSS has the ability to save someone's life. Accidents happen to the best of us.

If you end up getting a new truck, I would make sure your dad knows what options mean the most to you. Manual transmission, 4x4, etc. (I already know you will install a badass sound system). Manual transmission can be safer because you can stop sooner if you are in the correct gear, better in the snow, etc.

Don't feel funny if your dad wants to get you a new truck. Perhaps all TW owners are better off replacing their old Tacomas with new Tacomas before they actually "run them into the ground." Think of resale value and long term investment.

Now who thought that was a good idea?

    People love that configuration.

80K miles, clear title, A/C just recharged last summer, backup camera, GPS navigation, Pioneer speakers, intermittent wipers...

Two minor fender benders, one moderate collision (not my fault).

At least not in the SR and SR5...

I'd be willing to get automatic, as long as it was a red or black SR5...

But driving stick is just so much fun...

After I drive a stick vehicle, I find myself resting my hand on the shifter and reaching out for a phantom clutch with my left foot..

Easy sell. When the times comes that you are serious about selling/buying. Sell on Craigslist. Someone will snatch up your truck in a few days. Then you will get more money than a trade-in.

Whats the price difference between the V6 and I4, both 4x4? Maybe sacrifice some options on the V6 in order to gain the manual tranny and extra power? Idk just throwing some ideas out there
