That'll wear off, and I have the original calipers from '09 that have been exposed to almost a decade of Pennsylvania winters!

Also, it's like $70 off if I mail the old calipers back to Rock Auto!

I'm not spending $70 on the calipers...

The calipers are $45 per set, after rebate!

Do you replace your engine at every oil change?

Seriously...this would make 3 sets of calipers on a 2010 rig with less than 100k miles on it?

Wasted money Charlie. Calipers are not a wear item

    You misunderstood...

    Never replaced the calipers...

I've replaced the pads twice and rotors once.

Only fluid my truck has ever had flushed and replaced was transmission.

I've replaced the pads twice and the rotors once. Aside from the rustproofing spray done under recall last October, nothing under the truck has been touched.

    Oh...ok.

Well...I still say paint them. Odds are whatever caliper you replace it with will not be as good as the OE pieces.

Either way....throw up some pix when you get them

Aside from oil changes, routine maintenance, and aftermarket mods, this is what I've had done to my truck (This list includes shit that wasn't covered under warranty or that broke after the warranty period ended, and does not include items replaced or repaired under recall):

Accidentally severed wire for seat airbags ($60 to fix; 2013)

    Master cylinder failed (February 2014)

Some sort of transmission sensor that made it difficult to shift into and out of park (August-September 2014)

PRNDL light on gear selector (2015)

    A/C recharge (June 2017)

I don't feel comfortable disassembling my brakes. Would you think any different of me if I had my mechanic do that?

I’m certain Bill wouldn’t think any different. Remember Charlie, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Those that matter don’t mind, those that mind don’t matter.

You misunderstood me. I meant throw up the pix of the calipers when you get them shipped to you. Open box...snap picture.

Once they're on the rig....throw up some more pix. I realize that may be a while.

And why would I think less of you for not doing it yourself?

    Crazy talk Charles. :smack:

How I broke my master cylinder.

It was February 2014, and it had just snowed the night before. For some stupid reason, my college decided to open at the regular time even though they probably shouldn't have even done a late start...

I was behind a 2007-2014 Tahoe, and the Tahoe abruptly stopped. I practically jammed the brake pedal through the floor to avoid rear-ending that Tahoe. I came within inches of hitting the Tahoe, but avoided a collision.

I continued on my way and stopped at a red light not even two miles away. My truck stopped no problem. The light turned green, and in accordance with conditions I tapped the gas pedal. My truck didn't move, so I ended up flooring it. My rear wheels were clearly spinning, and I could eventually smell rubber burning.

I put on the hazards, threw it in park, and got out to investigate, expecting to be stuck on something.

My truck was most certainly not stuck, and I was absolutely dumbfounded as to what could be wrong.

I had the good fortune to break down in front of a house owned by a guy who had a 1st Gen Tundy TRD 4x4 with the 4.7L V8.

He connected our trucks with a length of chain and I shifted into neutral. He floored it and my truck barely even budged. It was during this time that he looked out the window of his truck and realized my front wheels were not moving. It was at this point that we determined something was wrong with the front brakes...

I called AAA, and my dad left work and drove out to help. At some point, a local cop who was responding to a single-vehicle accident just feet away from where my truck was stranded. He stopped to help me and provided me with two flares so people would realize the Tacoma was disabled.

In the meantime, the helpful Tundy owner invited us into his house, provided me with hot chocolate, and showed me and my dad his collection of R/C aircraft.

AAA finally sent a rollback out, and it arrived like an hour and a half after I called. The rollback hauled my Tacoma to the local dealer, and that afternoon they called me back.

When I'd applied the brakes, the pushrod got jammed into the master cylinder and totally seized. The brakes were essentially stuck and the front wheels were unable to turn. I had to leave the truck overnight since they didn't have a master cylinder in stock. They told me they'd never seen such a thing happen.

Parts and labor, plus tax, totaled about $1,200. I got my truck back the next day. My dad still thinks the situation could have been avoided if I hadn't been following too closely, but he still chalked it up to "shit happens" and paid for the repair no questions asked.

I don't think that's gonna happen now. My dad wants a new vehicle, we are getting some stuff done to the house this year, and there's nothing wrong with Emma.

Only need to have one done if you buy a vehicle with a different state title. Then the HP gets 30 bucks or something to run the vin... takes 5 minutes and they once passed a car I got with no engine or front end. Got a clean Kansas title for it and once fixed up was more than 50% parts off my old car, but it was now a “different” car. Go figure

    A thing or two...
It's easy enough to wire up the fog lights to operate like factory, so they turn off when your high beams are on and can only be turned on when the low beams are on. I've got a 2.7 as well, so my truck doesn't have the factory fog light wiring. I wired my aftermarket fog lights, so they behave like the factory fog lights.
