And people wonder why I have such a problem with authority...

My dad sometime mistook my disdain as outright disrespect (and still does), but it isn't like that...

I'm just a guy who dealt with shit in school like that iPod incident, getting detention for stupid like shit wearing a sweatshirt into class and smuggling a half-eaten sandwich out of class to eat it under the guise of going to the library, and teachers who did jack shit when kids bullied me, but had no problem suspending me when I finally snapped and all but kicked their asses...

Read my "iPod freak out" story and tell me what you think if you'd be so kind? :D:)

I can see both viewpoints. If every kid in class had an iPod out, even if not using it, then certainly that would be distracting.. at the end of the day her job and moral/ethical requirement is to teach, and she has to take reasonable steps to make the classroom environment conducive to learning.

Maybe the day she took issue was also a day that she’d had other issues, and her mindset changed slightly. Maybe, also, she understood your hesitation in doing so and didn’t feel like it was a large issue, but because you challenged her authority - she dismissed you from class. I think if she had a genuine problem with it then you’d have had a disciplinary action, but since the only conflict was she asked you (as the authority figure) to put something away and you refused, then she felt obliged to maintain authority and had you leave for the day. It’s her classroom, after all.

I can only imagine what classrooms are like today.. I’d bet it’s pretty difficult to control the use of cellphones in class. So, a pretty slippery slope for both of you guys!

My mom says I am a libertarian...

Some twatwaffles say that libertarians want a completely lawless and chaotic society, like the country of Somalia...

For me and a lot of people I know who identify as libertarian (I do not identify as 100% libertarian), we believe that a lot of laws are good...

For exaample, after last week's massacre in Florida, I'd consider myself an advocate of specially-trained and rigorously-vetted armed security at all public and private schools. I'd also be in favor of a one-entrance buzz in/buzz out system at schools.

I stand behind law enforcement officers 98% and military personnel 100% (I'll explain the 2% difference momentarily).

I believe in law and order, but I also believe in a smaller government and less bureaucracy.

Your response was really thoughtful after the OP asked your opinion and I especially agree with you here -- "I can only imagine what classrooms are like today.. I’d bet it’s pretty difficult to control the use of cellphones in class. So, a pretty slippery slope for both of you guys!"

We have the buzz in and out at Kutz (my youngest), good idea but I get the impression sometimes they simply hit the button without really looking and thinking. I know just this past week they’ve really stepped up on training and drills. Lenape’s front door is open but interiors are locked, West is wide open.

While I never thought I’d feel this way, I also agree with a highly trained, vetted and RELIABLE armed professional on the grounds. I’m sure it’s not a popular view.

At one point I had one of my kids in all three schools, oldest graduated West 2 years ago. All boys, they’ve always been very open with me, the amount and types of drugs that go through these schools is horrendous.

Rant over, think I forgot why I started...

    @Gr8fl

I stand behind law enforcement 98% because I've had an unpleasant experience with police back in March 2013.

Specifically, I was walking around Doylestown taking pictures some woman called the cops because she thought I was up to no good...

Her incorrect assumption ruined my day, and what was supposed to be a fun day of taking pictures turned into a 20-minute roadside interrogation by 4 cops where I was asked to show ID, and in general I felt like I was "guilty until proven innocent."

If I ever get hassled by police for something innocent like taking pictures in public, again...

I'm gonna take the "None of your business. Am I suspected of a crime? Am I being detained or am I free to go?" stance!

I smoked weed one time when it was offered to me by a friend. I never have been and never will be into drugs.

My Tacoma is my addiction! My constant need to modify and otherwise improve upon my Tacoma has resulted in a bit of credit card debt that my dad has begrudgingly helped pay off, but it will never result in the life-ruining consequences that come with heroin or coke!

Your response was articulate while putting yourself in each person's shoes, which can be difficult at times and it's easy to give statements taking one side or the other.

Unfortunately not all good people have good experiences with law enforcement (or teachers for that matter..), but try and remember everybody has their job to do. The teacher booted you from class for the day after interacting with you, and the police let you go about your business after interacting with you.

I’d suggest, instead of escalating situations where the interaction isn’t necessarily favorable to you or at least enjoyable or convenient, the fastest and easiest way to get it over with is to let the process be as short as possible. Telling the police to get a warrant or kiss your ass will almost assuredly waste more of your time than 20 minutes of basic Q&A.

Consider this, too. If your local police know you, have talked to you and know that a report of a “20 something white male with brown hair and glasses who is taking pictures of vehicles on the street” is going to be Charlie, they already know you’re not a threat to anything and probably either won’t bother to respond to that call, or if they do they’ll politely let you know someone called and was concerned and suggest taking a picture break. If your stance is combative, like the teacher before.. you’ll likely incur some level of consequence.

De-escalation is the best way. If you’re not doing anything wrong, don’t start to.

My new (just got it replaced under Crurchfield's 1-year warranty because the plug broke) dashcam is acting really weird...

It is not plugged in, and there is no memory card in it, but it still seems to "think" otherwise...

It also will not shut off no matter how long I hold down the power button!

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

The battery died literally as I was typing this post, but unfortunately this after I'd swapped in the rear camera for the drive home...

    image.jpg

I re-mounted it and plugged it back in...

Now it seems to be working fine!

That's the one good thing that came out of that incident!

The local police (at least the longtime veterans of the force) know me and know who I'm friends with, so they do leave me alone!
