    I don't doubt your stereo wiring skills...

    I think it's something with your Tacoma's wiring. Something probably needs to be replaced or rewired. How long ago was the Sony installed?

    Also, it sounds like the problem isn't the stereo, but the wiring somewhere in your truck...
