My dad remembers two things about the Rolls-Royce...

It was like riding on a cloud, and even in the extreme Middle East desert heat, he said the A/C in that Rolls worked incredibly well!

 

Pakistan is in South Asia, not Middle East, and Karachi being on the ocean actually makes the temperature a bit lower than going a bit inland. But still plenty hot enough to need AC. I actually got my first sunburn in Karachi (and 3 weeks of Diarrhea, losing 20 lbs) when I played 3 weeks of tennis tournaments there in 1999.

I am a huge Rolls-Royce fanatic...

I took a picture of my MacBook screen, showed it to my dad, and asked him which car the one he rode in looked like...



He said it looked like the green one on the bottom, and that it was black with a black interior. My dad also said he was in Karachi in 1986 or 1988 when he rode in the Rolls.

This would mean the car he rode in was a Mason's Black 1981-1988 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit or Silver Spur!

 

I forgot to mention that I grew up without any airconditioning - school, house or vehicle. Some days it was so hot, after you’re done showering, you start sweating before you’re even done drying yourself.

 

My bad!

Yes, sweating helps when it’s dry heat, because it evaporates off your skin. In humid heat there is no hope.

 

And no rust...

Tacomas would probably fare better there!

Why no A/C? I've got a friend in Hong Kong and he says he even the cheapest hotels ($75 a night) have air-conditioning over there!

 

Electricity cost was too high. Airconditioning is more common there now.

 

What about in cars? Cars didn't run on electricity when you were living there...

 

Our house over there is rented out at $200 a month. Back then we had another house rented out for like $50 a month. So you can see that the comparison to a $75 a night hotel doesn’t make much sense.

 

Why didn't cars have air back then? Or did only the super rich have A/C in their cars, like the guy my dad bought the Persian rug from?

 

Our car had a 3-cylinder 0.8L engine, and carried 5-7 of us around. I doubt it could even run an air conditioner on top of that, if it had even been an option.

 

What year was this in?

 

You had to move up to like a Toyota Corolla at minum to have AC. Our car was like a third of the cost.

 

We owned it 89-02.

 

I doubt many new cars there don't have A/C now...

Full. Came here at 18 years old to go to university here.

 

Are there many North America-spec Tacos in Pakistan?
