So I think it means it's time to treat like car shows like Christmas time and stop taking pictures, unless it's a Bugatti Veyron or something!

No, my parent was a habitual drunk driver that never got caught.
I'm grateful I don't have to deal with that crap anymore.

One of the reasons I'm glad I bought a new stereo...

    image.jpg

My iPod Nano still works, but as you can see it has a cracked screen. My Nano is also about three years old and the battery is shot.

The cracked screen was a fairly recent occurrence. With my Sony head unit or even the first Pioneer that I recently gave to James, the aging battery didn't matter because I used the USB port and my iPod was automatically charging.

With Boss head unit, I failed to notice that it lacked built-in iPod control and didn't realize this until the night my neighbor and I installed it. As we all know, an AUX input can provide decent sound quality but doesn't charge the device. The USB port is also damn near useless. I've had to resort to using a portable USB charger because the Boss seems to cause some sort of interference when the iPod is charging on an USB device that's plugged into my truck...

With this new Pioneer unit, I'm hoping to get another few years out of my Nano!

I happened to be walking my boss's dog on a Friday afternoon when I spotted a couple of guys parking this beast. I walked over, we got to talking, and they let me take pictures...

This truck is 1990 V3500 model with the base trim (I believe Scottsdale was the base trim in 1990). It was NOT originally a dually, and it was originally all white. It began life in service to the government, specifically the USAF. It spent its entire military career as a plow truck on an air force base in Maryland. This truck was ordered with the 350cid V8, 4-speed manual transmission, and a final drive ratio of like 5.13 or 5.30 (or some ridiculous number). It has no options, not even A/C. I forget how the guy I chatted with obtained it, but one of his employees apparently wrecked it. Among the damages caused by this accident, the rear axle was torn almost completely off. The guy decided to swap in a 1-ton DRW axle and got the fenders from another wrecked truck...

The most significant mod to this truck is an aftermarket stereo with CD player, and some new speakers. Aside from a new engine, the DRW rear axle, and two-tone paint scheme, this beast is largely stock...

The result is what you see in these pictures!

This is a 1989 model, with factory 454 big block and factory A/C (though the compressor was not installed so it doesn't work; In the engine shot, you can see A/C accumulator)...

This truck is factory 454, but the original 454 has been replaced with another 454 out of a totaled motorhome. This truck was converted from that GOD AWFUL spider-injection TBI system to a good old 4-barrel carburetor! The transmissions is TH400 3-speed auto...

Did I show you the factory 6.2L Detroit Diesel '93 Chevy G20 conversion van that showed up at my work the one time?!?!

It belonged to the band performing that night, and was their tour bus...

Obviously the owner was fine with me taking pictures here. His band is called "Mother," and he was so proud of this old beast that he asked to post the photos on Facebook under the hashtag of #RockYourMother. He had bought it just a couple weeks prior to the band's gig at my bar, and he had specifically sought out a diesel van because the 5.4L V8 in his previous Ford E-series conversion van had blown up while pulling a trailer full of the band's equipment...

He purchased this beast from the original owner for next to nothing, and there's not a thing wrong with the van. It had almost 200K on the clock at the time the pictures were taken, but it ran and drove great, the A/C worked, and it just look how clean it is! The owner told me he planned on installed a killer sound system (note in the interior shot that it has the factory Delco tape deck and a flat-screen TV. Over a year after these pictures were taken, I'd love to see the progress!
