To all my readers/followers in the Philly Burbs...

DUI checkpoint to be held on Route 611 in Warrington, from about 10pm tonight until 3am on Sunday morning. If you are someone with a job that requires working late (like me), or you are not going to be drinking and just want to have an enjoyable and hassle-free drive home tonight, then avoid traveling on Route 611/Easton Road in Warrington from about 10pm-3am tonight!

If you plan on drinking at all tonight, then you have absolutely no excuse to be driving at all. Call Uber or Lyft, get a cab, or otherwise designate a driver! Anything is cheaper than a DUI!

My mom got a bit annoyed at me for publicly announcing the location of tonight's DUI checkpoint on Facebook (where it is listed under my real name and thus viewable by law enforcement. I honestly don't care because for starters, law enforcement at the state and local levels are required to publicly announce these checkpoints and their locations. Second of all, one of the primary objectives of DUI checkpoints is deterrence. People know about the DUI checkpoints in advance, and the ones who plan on drinking will utilize one of the many options for a sober ride home. Those who don't plan on drinking will find an alternate route to their destination.

This will decrease the amount of traffic going through the checkpoint, and there will be only three categories of people going through that checkpoint; Sober locals who have no other way of getting to their destination for whatever reason, sober people (typically out-of-towners/tourists or new residents) who don't know the area and thus don't know all the various back roads and short cuts, and finally, people (regardless of whether or not they are from the area) who are stupid enough to drive drunk anyway!

I merely supplemented the official statement about the upcoming DUI checkpoint by reposting it through various social media platforms. Note that I did not give detailed directions on how to avoid the DUI checkpoint; I have my alternate route all planned out for when I go home from work tonight, and I am not telling anybody what it is. It will be up to other (sober) motorists to find their own alternat route!

We had a lull in business about an hour and a half ago, so my boss told me to take a break for a few hours but remain on call. I didn't even have to clock out! I decided to drive back home and grab my laptop before the police set up the DUI checkpoint, and I watched an old episode of The Flintstones until my boss needed me!

 

Hourly workers must be paid if they are required to be on call, see US DOJ vs El Paso Natural Gas.
