I have not been carded the last two times I went to the Doylestown Wawa!

I'm thinking they may have actually gotten in trouble for selling tobacco to minors, and things were tense for awhile, but then the "statute of limitations" (or whatever the hell you call it) ran out and now the authorities aren't watching them anymore.

I don't know what the rules are in Texas, but I do believe that it is not a crime for someone under 18 to possess tobacco products in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It's against the law for an adult to buy cigarettes, and it's also against the law for a minor to buy cigarettes (by means of a fake ID or whatever). However, once someone under 18 is in possession of any tobacco product, law enforcement can't do anything.

I've gotten used to it, but if I think something is unfair I have no problem fighting it every step of the way.

One of the things I have the biggest problems with is people who overreact to the most trivial bullshit...

They act like they've just caught you pissing on the grave of their deceased relative when it was just an honest mistake!

A perfect example would be residents of Doylestown who flip out at me if they merely think that Tully is gonna take a shit in their hard. Hell, even if she pees. I will keep the dog out of the flowers and bushes, but anyplace is fair game, and when she poops I have bags to pick it up with.

Then, there are the people who flip out when you accidentally park in their (often poorly marked) reserved spot. I've told you about my numerous encounters with angry motorists who think they are entitled to spots.

Then there are the naysayers who think they know more about caring for a dog than I do and can't mind their own business.

The list goes on and on, and these aggressive people are driving me nuts! My parents do not have these kind of problems in their day-to-day lives.

Now Charlie things you do might seem aggressive to them. So careful about throwing stones in a glass castle.

How is going up into someone's side yard to avoid getting hit by a speeding car aggressive? I don't think I deserved to have the homeowner scream "You'd better not let that dog shit in my yard!" at me...

I politely explained why I'd hastily dove for cover and also told them that if Tully did take a shit I had plenty of plastic bags with which to pick it. Totally diffused the situation...

As long as people don't fuck with my family or my truck, I'm pretty chill!

As some of you know, my parents' house has dual-zone A/C and heat (two separate air-conditioners and gas furnaces). For some stupid reason, builders around here are installing the upstairs furnace/air handler in the attic. At best, this makes it very hard to service. At worst, at least in my case, the furnace is installed almost directly above my bedroom! As a result, the heat works a bit too well in my bedroom. I prefer my bedroom to be cold and to just pile on the blankets. I do not sleep well when it is warm out. I keep my bedroom door shut when I sleep anyway, so I convinced my parents to let me crack one of my windows on all but the coldest nights. This is our second winter season in this house, and not once have my parents have not noticed a spike in their gas or electric bill during the winter (both furnaces in the house are fueled by natural gas, but are powered by electricity).

We moved into the house in either March or April 2016, so it wasn't exactly "A/C weather" yet. My room was perfectly comfortable, but when it started to get warm out, I noticed that my bedroom was considerably warmer than the other three bedrooms. Even simply stepping out of my bedroom into the hallway brought a substantial difference in temperature. Considering that I first truly discovered this at about 11pm when I was about to the hit sack on a warm night, I threw a fit and made my parents miserable (I apologize for this, mom and dad). A short time later, I got up on a chair and held my hand up to the vent (located in the ceiling), and was shocked to discover that airflow was very weak. I complained, my parents called the builder, and since the house was brand new, the builder sent out a guy to take a look, free of charge.

My theory was that they'd used flex-duct in the attic, and the duct going to my room had been pinched off. The actual problem was similar, but a damper in one of the ducts wasn't open far enough and it wasn't allowing enough air to get to my room. The guy sent by the builder adjusted the damper, and the A/C in my room has worked great ever since. Unfortunately, the heat and A/C come out of the same vent, and the increased airflow means that my room is warmer in the winter in addition to being colder in the summer. Luckily, opening my window and running both a table fan and my ceiling fan does wonders!

This is also not the first time the heat in my bedroom has had an obnoxious quirk...

Our old house was a roughly 2,500 square foot, 3-bedroom townhouse that my parents bought new in 2007 and sold in 2016 when they bought the house we're in now. Like the 2,900 square foot, 4-bedroom, single-family colonial we are in now, the townhouse also had dual-zone A/C and heat (one air-conditioner and furnace for the 1st floor/basement, and one for the 2nd floor). The A/C and heat in that house worked great, especially considering that my bedroom was directly above the garage. You'd think my room would be the hottest in the house, but with the A/C cranked you'd never notice, even if it was the middle of summer and the temperature was over a hundred degrees!

The second floor system in our current house has two large return air vents in the ceiling (one in the hallway across from my bedroom door and one in the master bedroom). These return vents are also where the filters are located, and while accessing the filters is a bit difficult due to 9-foot ceilings, they are easy to change once you get up there. This house has four bedrooms and not one of them has a return duct. The vents in all four bedrooms are located in the ceiling. The master bedroom has three or four vents, and the other three bedrooms (including mine) have just one vent.

The townhouse, which again was three bedrooms, was set up a wee bit different. The master bedroom had at least two (possibly three) ducts in the ceilings, plus a return duct (possibly two; don't remember). The master bathroom and walk-in closet also had a vent) My bedroom and the guestroom both had a single vent which blew the air into the room, and a single return vent.

The return vent in my bedroom started making this weird whistling noise in 2011-2012 or so. What's really weird is that this only happened when the heat was on. In the summer, when we had the A/C on, the sound was nonexistent. Even weirder is that it didn't manifest itself until probably 4-5 years after we moved in! I made a video, posted it on YouTube to get some opinions, and immediately got some responses. According to the almighty YouTube, the return vent was basically acting like a tuning fork. Why it only did this when the furnace was running, and was totally normal when the A/C was on, is absolutely beyond me, but it was still annoying...

One YouTuber suggested that I bend the louvers with a pair of pliers and see if it reduced the sound or made it go away altogether. I did this, and it seemed to work for the remainder of the season. Unfortunately, it came back full force the following fall when we turned on the heat for the first time! I told my parents, but they had no idea what to do and didn't think it was that big of a deal. Fed up, I decided to take matters into my own hands! I grabbed the stepladder and screwdriver from the garage, climbed up on the ladder, and removed the entire vent! Without a metal grate in the way, the return duct was completely silent! Sure, I did this without my parents' permission and they were less than happy when the saw a large rectangular hole in the ceiling, but I didn't really care and they got over it...

I presented the following arguments to my parents:

    1. It's my bedroom and I'm the one who has to sleep here.
    2. You don't have to sleep here, but I'd be willing to switch bedrooms with you for a night so you can experience the "tuning fork" for yourselves.
    3. It's more important for me to be comfortable and get a good night's sleep than it is for the house to look good. If it were your bedroom with a tuning fork for a return vent you'd probably agree.
    4. The vent can be put back in place if and when I move out or you guys sell the house, whichever comes first.
    5. My room, my rules!

About 4 or 5 years after I removed the vent, we did end up selling the house! What sucks is that I'd misplaced the metal vent! When I did end up finding the vent in my disorganized mess of a bedroom, I found out that the screws that at least one of the screws that had held into place was missing. My dad ended up buying new screws and redrilling the holes to put the vent back in place, and when he did, this was met with fierce protest from me because it was January or February at this point and still cold out. As a result, we were still using the heat. I told my dad that my comfort was more important than how the house looked during the last couple months we lived in this house, and that potential buyers probably wouldn't give a shit. I lost that argument, but luckily the "tuning fork" didn't make a comeback when my dad put the vent back in place.

I got my oil changed in the first week of January, almost three months ago! In that time, I've put less than 1,500 miles on my truck...

This should tell you how slow the bar business in Doylestown is right about now (especially in February)!

Illinois does get snow storms but most of the time the snow has melted in 7 to 10 days. There has only been 4 or 5 times I can think of getting more than a foot of snow in 22 years. In 2014 we had a snow storm and 20 degrees below normal for the next month. The snow didn’t melt for a while.

When I lived in PA, I was at a 2200 foot elevation. Snow was on the ground from November to April.

I put this thread in "4 Cylinder" because I own one myself and I have another thread planned about hypothetically converting a 2nd Gen 5-lug RC into a "track truck" of sorts. However, owners of V6 Tacos are welcome too, and all generations are welcome!

So, has anybody ever taken their Tacoma to a sanctioned racetrack or drag strip?

I saw a guy drag-racing his '96 GMC Jimmy 4x4 at Raceway park in 2014 (and doing quite well), so I'd imagine someone's put a stock Taco on the strip to see how it would do...

If you have entered a Tacoma in some sort of legal race, how did it do?!?!

NOTE: Please DO NOT discuss street racing, speeding, or anything else illegal. One of my other threads regarding the top speed of Tacoma got taken down by the mods for this very reason!

So yeah, has anybody raced a Tacoma or turned one into a pro street truck?
