So are you telling me that if you're the parent of a child who is molested or something, and you fantasize about beating the shit out of the person who did that, then that's voluntary?

I am wondering if my boss gave her dog laxatives or something, because she's pooped 3 times in like ten minutes! Hopefully she's not going for number four because I'm out of bags!

One of my philosophies is to always obey the law and follow all the rules, but to complain about the ones I don't like every step of the way!

Personally, not really. But it's your truck!

I think it would look better with a full replacement style front bumper.

Well we aren’t discussing that. We are discussing the ability to control ones angry thoughts not feelings. You can feel anger but you can control what you think.

Also, part of my anger comes from wanting to speak up for those less fortunate that me, whether the result of having a severe intellectual disability, being poor, or whatever. I was bullied in school, and as a result I have a hard time taking shit not only from people, but major entities (government, school districts, etc).

Here's a story for you guys...

At the 2017 Philadelphia Auto Show, there were these two black guys from Temple University playing violin in the the atrium of the building where the show was being held.

These guys were phenomenal, so much so that my dad dropped some money in one guy's open violin case.

We then sat down along the wall (not on the ground but on this extension that greatly resembled a bench, where we'd seen other people sitting earlier) and watched them play for a bit, until a killjoy security guard came along. This security guard was a young black woman, probably in her 20s or 30s. She told us we couldn't sit there because they'd had problems with homeless people coming in, sleeping and panhandling and whatnot, and seeing people sitting there would encourage them to come in. Okay, whatever...

We stood and watched the violinists for a few more minutes and then went to the nearby Hard Rock Cafe for a beer...

    Fast-forward one year...

At 2018 Philly Auto Show, the same two college students were playing their violins in the same place. I observed a black family (father, mother, two kids) sitting in pretty much the exact same place we had been when the security guard made us get up the previous year.

This black family was very well-dressed and did not look the last bit homeless, much less poor. Regardless of skin color, they appeared to be very well off. I didn't see a security guard in the vicinity, but I knew they patrolled regularly and would probably be around sooner or later.

I saw this black family sitting there enjoying the music, pointed them out to my dad, and told him my theory.

My dad and I both agree that we were doing absolutely nothing wrong by sitting there the previous year, but we just complied with the security guard's orders. Her reason for making us get up seemed reasonable at the time.

However, the theory I told my dad was that she'd made us get up because we were white. The black family sitting there a year later looked pretty comfortable, like they'd been there long enough for security to make their rounds at least once. My dad agreed with my theory, by the way...

Is it entirely possible that the security guard on duty that day in 2018 was a lot more easygoing, and that the black woman from 2017 was "obnoxiously by the books" and would have made anyone get up, regardless of skin color or outward appearance? Yes, definitely! After all, this woman was not rude to us at all. It's just a theory...

The problem you have with authority is also a voluntary problem. You can disagree with how authority is doing their job, but that doesn’t mean you are taking shit from them. Working in civil service I have to respect the orders from up above, no questions asked unless my life is put in danger due to that order. It would behoove you to actually follow that idea. Sure you were wronged as a child by authorities but you cannot continue to let that dictate how you are now as an adult. Society has rules and if you continue to want to buck against those who govern them it’s going to bite you in the ass really hard one day Charlie. You need to find a way to accept not everyone in authority is bad or is out to get you. You need to accept that just because you think it should be done in a way you feel like it should, doesn’t mean it will. You need to respect those people, and unless your life is in immediate danger due to their decision, you need to realize that yes you may not like their decision, you both can agree to disagree and leave it at that. Anything further is a voluntary decision by you to continue causing an issue and it will bite you in the ass
